Day 02 - October 16, 2010
Poovar

More action

I saw some plantain trees, and I wanted to get to the coast.
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2816.jpg

Mistook this fellow for Sugar cane
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2821.jpg

Came back with the flower of the plantain tree
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2826.jpg

I used to pluck this from my home in Trivandrum when I was small to drink the honey from it, and my mom used to chase me with a stick and I used to do a minimum of 10 circles around our home to avoid getting the punishment. Those days are etched in my memories forever.

PPGs enjoying the honey. I have never seen me smiling like that!
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2828.jpg

The sun had already set painting the sky with his wonderful hues
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2839.jpg

Some wild mangrove flowers
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2841.jpg

Jr. PPG and wifey guestering about a satisfied boat trip.
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2846.jpg

We finally reached the resort by 19:00PM. Considering the fact that I had booked a 1 hour boat trip, and the boatman happily taking us for a three hour trip and being party to all the happiness, I was very very satisfied. Thanked him and bid him bye for now.

Jr. PPG at the reception
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2888.jpg

We went for dinner directly and on finishing dinner PPGs went to the cottage to catch some cartoon shows and me and wifey enjoyed another stroll in the resort. By 22:00PM we reached our cottage and retired for the night.

Re: Civved : Poovar

lalu bhai - Awesome tlog and the most wonderful pictures to go along, thanks for sharing ! Lovely style of narration, simply exhilarating and enthralling the readers. This does not feel like a virtual tour while reading, rather feels like we actually traveled along on the trip !
You definitely have an alternate career as a writer/author just waiting to take off.
I found several other tlogs of yours and have bookmarked them for further reading - will definitely help me plan quite a few trips

Keep Driving (and writing about your experiences to share with us).

Day 03 - October 17, 2010
Poovar

Woke up to a very lazy day. I wasn't ready to get off the bed like that. End result I woke up by noon

Kiddies had gone for swimming and by the time I find them, they already finished swimming, their breakfast and were relaxing near the pool.
Civved : Poovar-_dsc2889.jpg

Seeing me they told me that they were going to fish!. I was like at noon, in moving water? But anyhow decided to give a try.

Disappointed I stopped fishing.

Saw a boat far way on the shore

Day 03 - October 17, 2010
Poovar

After lunch I decided to do some photography and the PPGS retired to the room.

I took my lenses and went in search of birds. I was lucky, there was a Hawk who gladly agreed to be my model. So tried out some stunts with my 200-500.

My Model Hawkie

After a while my model had to leave. So I started my stroll again. It was almost 15:30PM by then.

I saw a fisherman.

Wifey and PPGs join me by 16:00PM. PPGs announced their intention to go swimming.

A flower

By 17:00PM the sky showed its intention.
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3259.jpg

But we braved it and wanted to go to the beach. Kiddies were still at the pool. So the resort boat left us and another couple with a small kid to the beach, and warned us if it rains, till the rain gets over they will not pick us up from the beach.

Re: Civved : Poovar

Day 03 - October 17, 2010
Poovar

The resort guys had warned us against going near the estuary due to the currents. They have strongly adviced us against getting in the water there. The beach we were in is called Pozhiyoor beach, and is accesible by road . The other side of the estuary is Poovar beach and is also accessible by road. For us, it was so easy to cross the river to the beach in a boat.

Wifey walks toward the estuary, where Neyyar River joins Arabian Sea
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3339.jpg

She decides to settle on the rock and see the water joining the sea.

And then the inevitable happened. It poured down like anything. Since we were on the beach we could not take shelter anywhere. I hid my camera under my TShirt and got completely drenched in the rain.

The other couple were very worried about their small kid. These local lads who were swimming in the estuary, gave their lungis to cover the child. Beautiful gesture I must say.

Brave and caring local heroes.

Civved : Poovar-_dsc3386.jpg

By 18:00PM we reached the resort. The sky still shows its intention
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3450.jpg

Civved : Poovar-_dsc3455.jpg

We reached our cottage
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3459.jpg

After the rains the place has another charm
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3465.jpg

PPGs were already in the cottage, since they aborted their swimming session in the rains. Took a bath in warm water became fresh and headed directly to the restaurant for a long dinner.

We retired around 22:00PM. This time I was warned not to sleep till noon

After going through that wonderful thread, I decided my next trip to Kerala cannot be without Vagamon. Luckily I got a chance quickly & never failed to grab it with both hands.

Re: Civved : Poovar

Life was getting a little boring without a Laluks travelogue
Thanks for rekindling those nostalgic memories of Nagercoil, Kanyakumari P'puram palace etc

As you observed, it is a common sight in this part of the country, that whenever people see a waterfall, they come with soaps and shampoos and oils and what not to take a bath. Ridiculous!!

PS : I feel you are trying to bump up the saturation too much in some of your photographs (not talking about the NH7 photo where I think it was intentional)

Re: Civved : Poovar

No Laluks, no goof up. Just my opinion on 2 or 3 outdoor snaps in overcast sky. Otherwise pics are really good - my personal fav being the one just below the caption - some Kanyakumari pictures

btw, did you notice or take snaps of the coconut trees growing in a spiral manner at vattakottai?
