Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Poovar

The last day of Trip 3.

Since I was warned not to sleep till noon, I got up relatively early this day. Wifey was already awake and was enjoying the beauty of the place in rains.

Wifey meditating

We strolled along the resort.

We wanted to see the beach in the morning. So we decided to leave the PPGs behind for their good sleep and went to the boat jetty.

Some Management meet was planned there. Lucky chaps!

There was a boat available and got a drop at the beach.

We were dropped at the beach by 08:00AM and the boatman went back. We strolled along the beach, in the morning breeze and freshness of the rain.

Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Poovar

We saw the fishermen at work pulling a net from the sea. We got curious and waited to see the catch. It is a lot of hardwork, and it required quite a lot of manpower to pull the net out of the sea.

The fishermen were disappointed.
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3516.jpg

A fisherwoman who got curious with my camera, became friendly and talked to me. She told me that their daily life is a wait seeking the blessings of the sea to give a good catch, and today turned out be of those very bad days. I was saddened by hearing that. She went on to explain how thay love their partners who even at adversities stand by them and love them dear. She also pointed me to a lot of empty bottles of local made liquor thrown around and told, if only this was not invented, evrything would have been good for their loved ones. I could get the entire feeling of the community from her. I was silent throughout.

Felt sad, decided to move on.

Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Poovar

We started to walk along the beach with a heaviness in my mind. Wondering about a lot of things, and thinking how our problems seems to be so small comparing to them.

Wifey near some ruined boats

The beach is connected by road from Pozhiyoor. You can see the beach on the left and river on the right.

Civved : Poovar-_dsc3550.jpg

Decide to go back to the resort. Went to the river side and waved hands to the boatman, and he promptly took us back. We reached the resort back by 09:00AM

Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Poovar

I saw a lot of activities by the Bee eaters. Hooked up the 200-500 and tried some stunts. Given the fact that it was overcast, and the lens having a small aperture, resulting in such lighting situations challenged me. All shots are handheld. Hope it had come out well.

Re: Civved : Poovar

Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Poovar

By the time I was after the colourful birdies, wifey had checked out the room, cleared the bills and was ready to start our return journey. We had to go to Trivandrum to buy some Ayurvedic medicines. By the way the Ayurvedic resort here is good, and we got pamperd quite royally.

The rains make everything beautiful

The parting shot
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3616.jpg

We were very satisfied and happy with this place. We were very sure at this time that our summer vacation is going to be here. Which we subsequently did in Trip 4.

The parting shot of the estuary from the boat
Civved : Poovar-_dsc3623.jpg

We reached the place where we had parked the car by 12:00PM. While driving towards Trivandrum, I suddenly said, why not Kovalam. I have not seen the place, its just 20Kms. Yes, Civvy is going to Kovalam.

Day 04 - October 18, 2010
Kovalam

It was almost 13:30PM and our tummies began to grumble. So we tried to checkout a shack on the beach.

Everybody promises a lot of things. So decided to checkout lobsters. I insisted to see them before we make the dish. We were prepared to take a big lobster. But on seeing the lobster we had to take two, since they were the tiny types and not biggies.

I saw this board

By 16:00PM we started from Trivandrum and reached Nagercoil by 18:30PM. We subsequently reached Bangalore by 02:30AM the next day. Caught some sleep and the next day to get back to work and PPGs to school. Thus ended Trip 3, a happy vacation

Of all..this caught my eye !! Seemed rather 'out of place'. Of all languages, why German ?!

Poovar and Maravanthe are similar in terms of having a river and the sea near by. In Poovar, Neyyar river runs parallel to the sea along the beach and it joins the sea too there. In Maravanthe Souparnika river flows parallely to the sea, and we have NH17 in between the river and the sea.

German ? good question.
