A quick getaway to Thoseghar (photolog)

It had been quite sometime since the onset of monsoons. I had already missed the Sunny-da-dhaba tbhp meet owing to office travels.
My car had been itching for a drive, if not longer, atleast longish.
So, one Friday night at dinner, an impromptu decision to visit Thoseghar was made.
The steed: Cruze LTZ AT
Starting time: 7am from Pune
Only pit stop: McD (1 hr for sumptuous breakfast)
Travel time: 2.5 hrs

The drive was super cool, with scenic greenery all around and fresh air once you turn after Satara. Rest of the journey is refreshing with car-windows down and intake of fresh air.
It was an awesome tryst with nature at its best and virgin beauty of waterfalls and greenery devoid of plastics.

I'll let pics do the talking ...

@Thoseghar waterfalls. Its a small-ish trek down towards the waterfall. And a board warns you of the danger of swimming as it lists the number of people who had drowned there. Though since 2005 no drowning incidents have occurred. The board had been put up by the parents of one of the victims.
Well, fun within the boundaries of caution is always cherished.

Re: A quick getaway to Thoseghar (photolog)

After coming out of the waterfall, we realised that suddenly mist has covered the whole area, but we caught a glimpse of a lot of windmills uphill, so decided to climb up.
And we were reminded of good old glory of Lonavla, where mist plays hide and seek with you unearthing hidden natural beauty that leaves you awestruck.
We stopped at a place just to idle and let the nature soak us in, when we heard a chopper-like noise, only to realise that its a HUGE windmill.
While returning we came across, what looked like a mini-Kaas plateau though all flowers were only white; although Kaas comes alive towards late September, if I am not wrong.

@Rahul - Great snaps. Optimum utilization of the sun roof in the cruze on this route.

Can you please tell me the route in brief? 2.5 hours drive should be good for one day outing assuming that the roads are good. Any places nearby to it for Lunch options?

The route: From Pune, you need to take the Pune-Bangalore highway uptill Satara. Take a right turn from the highway once you reach Satara. Thoseghar waterfall parking is around 25 kms from Satara and roads are fab - dont remember encountering any potholes. The drive from Satara to Thoseghar parking is awesome peppered with small ghats and villages, with hardly any traffic. Total distance from Pune is 145 kms. From Thoseghar parking the walk/trek is hardly 10-15 mins.

While coming back from Thoseghar before entering Satara, there is a nice restaurant Shivneri/Sangam (cant remember the exact name). Else, Satara has a number of restaurants.

Places to enjoy:
(1) Of course, Thoseghar waterfalls
(2) Windmills
(3) Village detour - can sit near a shallow river and enjoy

Re: A quick getaway to Thoseghar (photolog)

Those are amazing snaps! I think this the same road to the Kaas valley (If I am not mistaken those flower shot, were taken while passing through Kaas?)

I remember @Starvegabond's TL and report of the BHP meet. Even those windmill snaps aided my guess.

Re: A quick getaway to Thoseghar (photolog)

@rahul,
nice pics but.....
.....it seems that you missed the main waterfall at thoseghar.
The snaps you posted here are of smaller fall which is at upper end of main waterfall.
The entry to main waterfall is another trek.
The main waterfall is huge, really huge.
If you visited main waterfall at thoseghar, please share the pics.

The flowers at windmill area at chalkewadi plateau are as good as kaas plateau.

Yup, we did not trek further upto the main waterfall as it was a bit slippery and family vetoed it
Apparently there are some river rafting as well that one can do, which again we missed.

Ohoho,
you really missed something,
its like you went to Aagra and visited only the fort and not the Tajmahal.
You should plan another visit to thoseghar to see the main fall, its worth,
people go there to see the main fall.

I always suggest that during the thoseghar trip, one should visit sajjangad fort, thoseghar fall, chalkewadi windmill plateau and if possible, visit kaas plateau also.

yeah, thats it.
Looking at the waterlevel at smaller fall in the pics posted by rahul, i am sure that main fall must be in full flow.

Thanks Ashish. I think next I will plan during September when Kaas will also be in full bloom and will definitely go for the main waterfall.
