Hampi: Black and White with a dash of color

We went to Hampi last weekend.
Route: Bangalore-> Hiryur -> Chalkagere -> Hospet (Bypassed Bellary)

There is a hotel Gandharva at around 30 mins drive from Hiryur on the way. Ok place to eat.

Stayed in Hospet for the night.

As usual I was not able to start off early in the morning. In fact we started at around 10.30 in morning.

We reached Hospet at around 8 in evening. Rushed off to see the Tungabhadra dam. And we were not disappointed. There is simply too much water there.

Whew. Now the easier part. Picture uploading. This time I was determined to use the Dynamic Black and White of LX3. And I am happy with results.

Curious case of this Bolero.
Must have done fairly high speeds in night to end up like this.
Also funny thing is that it is running without any number plates. There is a pure white rear plate at the rear and front does not even have a plate. Fogs were broken and so this is no new vehicle.

Infact I saw way too many cars without plates. Maybe they were getting transported.

Our ride. Yum.

Hey, nice photos there!

You took 9.30 hrs from B'lore - Hospet?! Are the roads bad or you drove leisurely?

The TB dam looks wonderful; it had quite a bit of water when we went in the peak of summer itself.

Good perspective in the B&W pics!

Re: Hampi: Black and White with a dash of color

^^ I don't usually cross 80 on single laned state highways. And add to that coffee breaks and lunch.
From Hiryur till Hospet it is single laned road.

Roads are a good. Just some killer unmarked speed breakers.

As a bonus I got 21kmpl for this trip.

Brilliant B&W images. Hampi is on my to do list for a long time! Seen TB dam a good 12 years back, then too it was in full glory. How is the heat in Hampi during Septmenber? It gets unbearably hot in Hampi during summers..

Excellent photos on an excellent location. Wish you could have added description to every photo so people like me who haven't gone there can relate to the pictures better.

The Thungabadra dam in night looks awesome - the dam holds so much water: wonder how it manages this without getting broken.

You got some interesting perspectives. After spending 4 days and 1000+ snaps at Hampi, I could not recognise one or two shot locations.

Cheers

Heat is manageable. Surely not a place to go in summers.

I have a very poor memory. So can't really recall much. But the picture with lady in it, that is from a temple below ground level and depicting whole of Ramayana in form of small statues on its walls. You should visit Hampi. Worth at least one visit.

Weather is good after rains. Not a place to go in Summers. I heard that on Independence day the keep all the gates of TB dam open. Not sure how true it is.
Me and my BIL went. We stayed at a place called Sivanand Hotel in Hospet. Check for Hotel Shanbagh around Bus Stand. Its located near it.
Rs 700 for a double bed AC room. 24 hrs checkout. Not sure if family will be happy. But Bachelors will be happy with the rates.
Car parking can accommodate around 2 cars only.

We stayed clear of Guides. But to their credit they did not pester the tourists the way it is done near Fatehpur Sikri or TajMahal.

It was my first camera 1st serious shooting attempt with a Canon S5IS . Most of the shots deserved the trash bin... I will upload the better ones and link one day

Re: Hampi: Black and White with a dash of color

Hey download, those are some beautiful B&W snaps. Hope you gave yourself enough time to explore the place. It takes 2 full days to just see everything and probably life time to study.
Had made it to one of the Hampi festivals a couple of years ago and boy does the temple street without the vendors look clean and nice!!

Well to tell truth we did not have enough time. But the kind of time management I am famous for it was either this little peek at Hampi or none at all. Trips once postponed seldom happen, at least for me. So made the best of whatever I little time I could manage.
