PICS : Pobitara is OPEN!!! Hi all T-BHPians. have been close to Guwahati on posting for about a year now. and ever since Pobitara closed, had been dying for it to reopen. Well, got the news that the sanctuary was to open on 08 Nov 11. Made plans and the best date worked out to be 12 Nov 11.
So there it was. The plan was to move for Pobitara on Saturday morning at 0630. We started on time and reached Pobitara by 0700.
Route Taken: Well Im staying very close to Pobitara. So went straight from Sonapur to Pobitara via NH 37 taking left turn from khetri village.
Accomodation: Did not need to as I am only 25 KMs away from the sanctuary.
Road condition is okay on NH 37 and so so on the tributary road after the left turn. In between there was a patch which cant be called as Road.
Had given prior intimation a day earlier (Thanks to my contacts). The Range Officer was kind enough to have our tickets (for the elephant ride) ready in no time. He said that the first trip of elephants had left a few minutes earlier and that there would be a little wait. Said thanks and started towards the elephant ride point. Total cost of ride for two adults and charge for camera was Rs 700.
The two black stallions.
The new hanging bridge.
Simple and to the point.
Recruit undergoing training for the rides.
We set off on the elephants to meet the silently majestical.
And there it is!!!
An another one!!
And another!!
Mother and baby Rhino. A family actually!
With that, the journey came to a nice end. We got off the elephants, thanked the mahaouts and the elephants alike, and headed back for home.
PS: Useful information:Try and make it early (6 to 630 AM) ot have the first ride of the elephants. Gypsy rides are also available but the thrill of an elephant ride cannot be matched.
