My partner, Manish's pictures

Aamir, Amit, MK, Supertinu, RulerofSun, Gr8guy, and Aviorp- Many thanks.
Ku69rd- sorry, I did not maintain a strict Km log, and that remains my 'fail' point thru all my journeys.

Manish who was my partner in planning and surety for bail at Chang La, sent in his collection of pictures- for those who wanted a few more.

Re: Mumbai -> Leh -> Mumbai Travelogue (August & September 2011)

As I prepare to ride my bike to the Northern Frontier again- here is a small word for the books that shape my travels.
Every once in a while you come across a book, or two that really make an impact on the way you look at things. A book by Parth Banerjee (Milestone) and a book on Indian Birds by Grimmett, Inskipp and Inskipp (Oxford).
Grimmett, Inskipp and Inskipp- years, ago- on Rajesh Patel's farm, walking thru orchards of the famous 'kutch mango,' a bird jumped on us and we managed a rapid photo of it- and the book- gave this novice the pleasure of looking at the bird in full colour rather than the grungy black and white grainy pictures one is so used to seeing for reference in either books or in goverment offices.
Banerjee was such a refreshing write that you read the last thing at night, to review the geography, geology, the rivers, the amazing pace makes you feel he was narrating to you, rather than just you browsing thru some travel literature. I thank him for much of the joy i got out of writing my travelogue on Leh.
