How could we keep away for too long from this place? The family wanted to go to the beach yet again and I had to oblige since it was the summer holidays. We went back to the beach on 24-Mar-2012

Surprisingly it was not very hot and we enjoyed the weather thoroughly. A short account of the trip to be unfolded tomorrow.

We took the usual route of Pune-Expressway-Khalapur-Pen Connector-Alibag-Kashid. In the small ghat section just as one comes down to Alibag, there was an accident with a rickshaw that had gone off the road into the slopes below. Rescue operations were on and the injured people had been brought up and an Ambulance was on its way. Because of the accident, there was a traffic jam and as usual there were a number of drivers that shifted into their smart mode and moved into the opposite lane, creating a deadlock. We managed to break free since we were only a couple of vehicles away from the center of the deadlock and had remained on the left lane.

We stopped briefly at Nagaon beach. I wanted to show the beach to my family. However we could not see much of the beach because of the high tide. It was around noon.

We then proceeded towards Kashid. A little after Nagaon, there is a petrol pump and a small restaurant just after the petrol pump. We stopped there to pick up a bottle of solkadi. We finished half the bottle there and reserved the rest for our lunch.

After we crossed the Revdanda bridge, there was some traffic and everyone was moving at snail's pace. Again the smart ones moved into the right lane to overtake the dozens of vehicles driving along the left lane. With the blind curves, ups and downs, it was not long before these stupid people led to traffic jams. Once they realized that they could not overtake everyone in one go and there was no place to move once a vehicle came from the opposite side, they slowly merged back into the left lane. We crawled for nearly an hour before we reached Kashid. And the reason for all the delay was some special purpose army vehicles travelling with escort vehicles. They were obviously carrying something precious/dangerous and were moving in unison at a very low speed and were not allowing people to break into their convoy.

We finally reached our place of stay by around 2.00 p.m. and headed straight for lunch. After a good lunch we wento to our rooms, unpacked our stuff and slept for an hour. And then we haded to the beach. At the beach everyone took to the water like fish and stayed there until it was dark.

As the night fell we walked back to our rooms. Took showers and then headed for our dinner. Post dinner, we played cards until everyone was sleepy. I woke up in the morning and wanted to go to the beach. But the family was more than content to be curled up in bed. So off I went to the beach all alone. All these years, every time I visited a beach I would resolve to be on the beach at sunrise. I am still waiting for that day.

The beach was almost empty. I walked towards the rocky hill on the far side of the beach.

I see that there is some activity going on in the stream. My curiosity got the better of me and I walked upstream.

Natural refrigeration - keeping their catch fresh


I have very fond memories of the fishing trips that I have done with my dad in my childhood. Most of our summer vacation used to be spent in fresh water fishing. It was a lot of fun. So this definitely got me hooked and I just stood there watching these men and women catch the fish from the stream.

And then suddenly I spotted this.

They were very careful about catching this one


And they let it stay safely on the rocks until it was time for them to call it a day.


I felt sad for the sting ray.

So I walked back to our rooms. I had thought of asking the fishermen if they would sell the fish they had caught so far. But carrying them back to Pune in the hot summer did not seem like a good idea. We would have ended up smelling so very fishy by the time we reached Pune.

So it was the end of another enjoyable trip to Kashid beach.

The sunset on the beach is always a must watch, You have captured the magic here, some great shots with viivd color of the sky. And that snap of 'Revadanda factory' this actually looks to me a ship loader where clinker (used in cement plants) is loaded on to small cargo ships.
