A lovely travelogue, Robi, and some super amazing photographs. It nice that you got a very good weather too, with bright blue clear skies. Looking forward to a lot more photographs.
I had really wanted to visit Russia a couple of months ago but had to drop the idea due to lack of sponsorship for the visa. 5 *s rated.

Excellent. 5* from me. I loved the pic of bear eating the fish. Wow the fish itself look so lovely!

Can you share the details of the trip? I mean how you booked and if you dont mind then the expenses etc.

Re: Bears, Volcanoes & what not, Far East Russia: Photologue

DAY 8

Today we took a boat out of Avacha Bay, PKC far into the Pacific to see seals, gulls, puffins and orcas (killer whales). We also did a lot of fishing from the boat and often got into a dingy boat to see the marine life up close. A diver even got us some sea urchins and they were quite a tasty snack. We spent the night on the boat

I know dolphins are notoriously difficult to photograph - you don't know where they popup from, and when they do, they show themselves for 1 second before disappearing into the water. But what about Orcas? Are they easy to photograph? Or does one require lots of patience here?

@Robi, How easy(difficult) it was to handle an expensive and a heavy equipment (DSLR + lens) when on that boat?
Any special care did you take?

Words are worthless to praise the beauty of the snaps. Awesome photography along with the writeup.

Lucky you so upclose with the Bears. As far as volcanoes are concerned, I too have seen some nice ones in central america.

Waiting for more.

Patience and anticipation are the key when shooting these things from a rocking boat. I would say its eve more difficult to shoot orcas as they dont seem to come out of the water as often as dolphins. i have shot blue whales and dolphins before and I place place the difficulty of shooting orcas somewhere between the two.

No special care..I have been on such a boat before. Besides pro equipment is very well weather sealed. One more thing, i wasn't using a super telephoto lens, it was a 70-200

Spectacular images and slick write-up! It's probably the cold, language and easy access of vegetarian food keeping away the Indians from visiting Russia. Hoping to shoot like you few years down the line. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful travelogue! Will await for the rest of the pics.
