Nice snaps! I remember you mentioned long back you had 1000D or a 500D right?
Any updates to the optics?

Re: New York/Boston trip

Nice!! Agree, with you that Ellis Island was a nbd! Didn't find it quite interesting apart from some of the sections inside the Immigration Center!

I was staying bang opposite the WTC1 (the half done tall building)@ the Hilton Manhattan. Was there during the same time as you! Must say, the weather was awesome! Wish Bangalore weather was the same! (I love the cold!).

The Desi food@ Lex ave has always attracted me, make it a point to eat there whenever Im in NY.

Cheers
Shrey

How do you remember such things (beautiful mind...thingy ?).
You are right.I have a humble 1000D and I'm not much of a photographer.

Thank you..so you are a cold guy like me ! (pun intended).

Funny thing.....The place where I stayed had like 70% Indians and few Asians and small sprinkle of white guys. Never felt like I was out of India (except when you go to NY side) ...what with the tadka smell and all.

I'll try to upload some more snaps by tonight of Central Park.

@gajadonga: Thank You !

Central Park :

The park initially opened in 1857, on 843 acres (3.41 km2) of city-owned land. - source Wiki
I've heard so much good thinks about Central Park. So on cold weekend I decided to head to the park.

Even during fall Central Park looked amazing and colorful and full of people.
It was really a delight to visit one of the biggest city parks in the world.

My only repentance is that I count not traverse the entire Central Park by foot on one day.I now wish I had come another day and done the rest of it !

Here's some snaps :

I fully agree. I too spent nearly 2 hours at Central Park in Jan 2011, and trudged along from the 59th Street entrance all the way till the reservoir near the 86th Street. At that time, the entire park was blanketed in snow, and I could not distinguish between land and water in the park's water bodies. And though I was freezing despite being heavily clothed, I was astonished to see young couples jogging in shorts!

Lovely pics indeed! Your camera must be a DSLR as the resolution is mind-blowing.

I could not resist posting a few pictures of the frozen reservoir. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks for that wonderful snaps !

I have an entry level DLSR : Canon EOS 1000D DSLR with kit lens (no moolah for fancy lens)

Continuing with the snaps :

My pathetic attempt at HDR image :

New York/Boston trip-hdr.jpg

Even in the cold there were a lot of musicians playing.
I stopped to listen to few of them. They are really good at this

Witnessed a very tough looking HOG - just like in the movies.

Little dudes

and SMURF

Some kind of tube art :

New York/Boston trip-tubeart.jpg

Wollman Ice skating rink. I think it belongs to Donald Trump (notice the Trump board). I believe major real estate in NY is owned by Trump - right people ?

I did not attempt to Ice skate here. Why you ask ?
a) I was petrified that I would break my hip and be a laughing stock.
b) They were building a skating rink besides my apartment and they were giving 1 day free pass just before Christmas eve.

Re: New York/Boston trip

Amazing location. The place is crying out loud... Snap me ... Snap me.... !
Again very nice set of snaps there.

Starting with that aeroplane snap, I am of opinion, HDR would be very-very good for most
of them.

As promised here you go.

Snaps of the freak blizzard.
It was quite windy/cold and my camera was getting wet, so had to take the snaps quickly. Please pardon the bad quality and off-topic :

Another funny fact : Except for me and another India lady(hands outstretched and giggling like a 6 year old girl) and her mother, nobody else was outside in the blizzard. The conciliare/doorman was looking at me funny and must be thinking : "These Indians are crazy".

Re: New York/Boston trip

Nice snaps.

I was at the same time in the US of A in October. However, missed NYC. Was holed up in Boston due to work and could not work out a feasible travel plan to visit NY.

Looking forward to more snaps and details.

I hope you did know that they do this for money, as in they play so that people will put money in their Boxes.

You will find such *Musicians* all over NYC, at parks, subway stations etc.

Yeah 2011 was relatively less cold with almost no Snow. We had quite heavy snowfall last year.

Re: New York/Boston trip

Great snaps and reminds me of those days in NY. Going by the pictures looks like you are staying in River Court Apartments. I enjoyed my stay there before moving to Flushing.

Cannot forget my numerous $10 trips from NY to Boston.

Keep it going..

Yes I do ! It didn't feel right to be a freeloader, so I dropped a dollar or two before I politely asked them for a snap.

Re: New York/Boston trip

Amazing and crisp pictures of the big city. The main attractions are nicely covered and presented nicely. Thanks for your efforts, time and sharing the experience with us.
