A Sunday afternoon drive to three beaches near Kochi

Sleeping is a cool option of spending a Sunday afternoon if you do not have anything else to do. I did this and went for a drive to some not so well known beaches on the Kochi coastline.

The poor quality of pictures taken by me in no way diminishes the splendor of these beaches. No camera with me being an unplanned run. But is definitely a good place to be in on a Sunday evening. They are Pallathunkulangara beach and Pulimuttu which sandwiches the more familiar Cherai beach.

From Vypeen proceed towards Cherai direction and turn left at Kuzhippally to reach the unspoilt Pallathunkulangara beach. This is a new beach and picnic spot in the making. Food Kiosks are under final phase of completion. The nearly 2 kms drive from Vypeen Cherai Road is through picturesque ambiance.

After spending an hour at this beach I proceeded thrugh the narrow road closely trotting the coastline to Cherai beach where there was a huge sunday crowd. So I drove past Cherai beach to Pulimuttu which is a nice rendezvous. Very clean environment. Across we can see the Azhikode drive in beach which is quite far. The entire area is covered with Chinese fishing nets.

All these beaches are worthy for an afternoon filled with fun and frolic.

Today, another Sunday went on a whirlwind drive to Kodanad where an elephant training school is located. Kodanad is 10 kms from Perumbavoor.
Kodanad is about 40 km from Ernakulam town and the roads are quite good.

The place is on the southern banks of river Periyar.

Earlier elephants captured from the Malayatoor forests (the forests in the East and North of Kodanad) were trained there. Since the introduction of a ban on elephant capture Kodanad has been reduced to a mere training centre.

On the northern banks opposite to Kodanad is the Malayattoor hill where the famed Saint Thomas church is located.

There is also a mini zoo there.

There was boards indicating the official birds and flowers of all the Indian states. Some GK.
