Mumbai - Kerala trip in 2006

Hello,

As some of you probably know, I, and my family, plan to drive down this summer to Kerala for our summer vacation. I have been doing this in the past and have been maintaining a log for each such long drive I take.

I thought I will kick off this as a seperate thread and also begin by sharing my earlier log. Who knows, it could be useful to others too.

Some back ground of the trip. The car was a Maruti 800 AC/TG. I and a fellow Ham R made this trip for the purpose of attending an AGM at Cochin.

Just wanted to let you all know, before the sceaming starts, that the formatting in the post got screwed up.

It is supposed to be in 3 columns, Kms reading, Time and remarks. It appeared all correct when I 'cut pasted' it in the editor. But when saw the post on the web, it now appears as one straight column with all of them one below the other.

Wondering if there was a better way to do this.

It would be great, if you could upload snaps of your travel , also can you suggest any good maps for a first time traveller like myself for (Mumbai - Kerala route), I am thinking of doing this trip (Mumbai - Kerala, If my Boss gives me leave)
Good write-up , very much in detail.

holy cow! that's neat! i've done Mumbai-Kerala-Mumbai thrice, and all i can remember, apart from the scenic roads, is this-

start: Vasai, Mumbai-8:00 a.m
stop: Trichur, Kerala- next day 4:00 p.m (including 7 hrs halt, and some roaming around in Goa)

perhaps i was too crazy in my spirit for driving....

Maps to Kerala

Snaps are there someplace. There were no digital cameras back then. So I would have to locate them, scan them and then upload them. Big pain.

I had taken a series of photos of the Maravanthe stretch and it was my idea to make a collage of it. Somehow never got down to it.

As for maps, I always take the WIAA route maps. I also have TTK maps to know the general lay of the land so to speak.

If you are interested, I can photocopy and courier you the WIAA route maps for this trip of mine.

If anyone of you want to make better sense of the numbers in one column, I will more than willing to send the original in word format.

ICE fitted in car

Hello,

Preparations are underway for the forthcoming Kerala trip. Today being a holiday I decided to get ICE fitted in to the car. After much research, including browsing the posts in this columns, I settled for the following:

1. Super make 5" LCD Sun Visor screen
2. Sony MEX R1 player. Got aux in fitted for listening to Podcasts from my Treo 650.
3. Old Pioneer speakers were deemed good enough.

My kids are excited and I plan to drive on the Mumbai Nasik Highway upto Tarachand Bhagat for dinner and back. They want to do a short 'warm up' run :-)

Hai Venkat and other posters,

I have loaded my trip logs to Kerala on the following URL: You'd get very detailed info from it. My trip log from 31-10-05 onwards is from Thane to Kerala.

Excellent logs Ramky

Ramky,

Excellent logs. Read them with considerable interest. Have been on the route before and will be doing it again. So I could relive it through your logs.

What car did you use? There are notes in the end of how the car performed, but nothing about the model/make.

I will try to see what I can do.

Thanks, once again, for sharing.

Movies to see - Help wanted

Hello,

Last night we saw 'Looney tunes - Back in Action' on the drive to Bhagat Tarachand and back and all of us really enjoyed it.

It was nice.

This set us thinking about what movies to take to the Kerala trip. We debated and finally concured that it should be movies keeping in theme with the trip. Movies that center around vacationing / travel by road.

Quickly a few names got rattled off as must haves for the trip.

1. If it's Tuesday, it must be Belguim.
2. Around the world in 80 days.
3. Bombay to Goa....how could one miss that.
4. An evening in Paris.
5. Roman Holiday
6.
7. ( This space left blank intentionally for your suggestions, dear readers )

Also I am now wondering where in Mumbai, can I lay my hands on these VCDs? Any ideas?
