Equally enjoyable, if not more so, from a train. Esp. near Johna/ Gautamdhara.

Agree ...
That too on a day train.
I have traveled along this route by train regularly between 1999-2001.
Journey used to be more enjoyable during the rainy season.
One can actually "hear" the falls in full stream ... (esp towards Muri).

Saurav

//M thanks for posting pictures of Netarhat and freshening my childhood memories. I visited Netarhat some 4 - 5 times back in 80s and early 90s. I remember plucking pears (naspati) fruit enroute to this hill station which were abundant in that area.
I used to stay in official guest house and used to roam around many places including that suicide point. Reason why I visited many times, one of my very close relative was Doctor and posted in Ghagra Primary Health Center and Netarhat used to come under his area.

Re: The scintillating Patratu Valley in Jharkhand

Few pics of Tilaiya Dam.

Route taken: Ranchi-Hazaribagh-Barhi-Tilaiya Dam-Barhi-Hazaribagh-Ranchi

Total Distance: Approx 320 kms

Terrific 4-laned highway from Ranchi to Barhi with fast straights and inviting corners. The last few kms from Barhi to Tilaiya Dam is a 2-lane section with smooth surface.

Re: The scintillating Patratu Valley in Jharkhand

Greetings of the day!

1. Great pictures of an area where I spent my childhood, my babuji(father) being an employee of Central Coalfields Limited, Giddi A project.

2. In need of an itenerary based out of Ramgarh/Ranchi to cover all neighbouring places-Giddi A, Ramgarh, Rajrappa,Ranchi, Bhurkunda, Patratu, Saunda, Netarhat, Tilayya, Hazaribag etc.

3. How's the law and order situation there? Does one still have to observe the norm of no-travel-in-the-dark?

Regards!

Thanks sir.

Ideally the route to cover all these places would be Ranchi-Patratu-Giddi-Saunda-Ramgarh-Hazaribagh-Tilaiya Dam-Hazaribagh-Ghato-Tenughat-Petarwar-Gola-Rajrappa-Ramgarh-Ranchi.

For Netarhat, you can take the Ranchi-Bero-Lohardaga-Ghagra-Netarhat-Mahuatarh-Lodh Falls-Betla-Ranchi.

You can travel safely at night between Tilaiya Dam-Hazaribagh-Ramgarh-Patratu-Ranchi. However, traveling at night in Netarhat is strictly not advisable. It is a naxalite infested region and more than the fear of the rebels, one should be careful about the availability of puncture shops, repair shops, etc if the need arises. The Netarhat-Ranchi stretch has minimal dhabas, few puncture repair shops that get closed by night and the worst part is that the region around Netarhat has absolutely zero mobile connectivity, which means it is not at all advised to travel in such remote places having no mobile network at night. The roads in most of these places is very good with minimal traffic and smooth winding surfaces that make driving a pleasurable affair.

Re: The scintillating Patratu Valley in Jharkhand

Beautiful pictures there Arunabh. So, finally the City is doing trips outside the 'city'! And agree with the route information. The Koderma-Hazaribagh-Ramgarh-Ranchi road is fine but Netarhat and the regions around is not safe for traveling after dark.

Keep posting these beautiful pictures of the region.

Regards,
Saket

Thank You Sir. The City is used by my parents, they have done a couple of outstation trips to Jamshedpur, few to Hazaribagh and Daltonganj. However, I have only been to Patratu a couple of times in the City so far. All my long rides are in my beloved Classic 500 Desert Storm. So, more than the City, its my Classic 500 that is put to the task of exploring places around Ranchi.

Sir, the roads around Ranchi has improved to a great extent. Few pictures to justify it:

Fantastic man! Never knew that you are an RE fan! Good to know that. And yes, road infrastructure around Ranchi is very good. Most state & National highways are in very good state. And to top that, Ranchi (& around) is a place worth exploring. Good to see that you have been hitting the roads frequently for it.

Yes a big RE fan.

An ownership report of my Classic 500:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...ert-storm.html

Yes the roads have improved a lot. Once the Ranchi-Baharagora section will be complete, it will be a blast to drive down to the beaches of Odisha, West Bengal and explore more such hidden destinations.
