Went through the 1st few posts to only check if there were any monkeys that you spotted. LOL. Am hooked and rated 5 stars , definitely worth the friday morning's leisure time.

Re: 18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again

Someone had said Ladakh is an addiction
Tanveer you prove this, time and again, with affection
I did get Leh'd this August with full devotion
Thinking I may not do the road trip again
But in two weeks time I want to get Leh'd again

I know my amateur poetry is rubbish, but your photos and narration is awe-inspiring.
Rated 5 stars!

Awesome Pics Tanveer, especially the night shots. I have been waiting for your travelogue since days. Now that we are glued don't keep us waiting. I feel it is time to dump the white Elephant and get something more reliable, the time usually spent in TASS can be better utilised in planning future trips and processing pics .

What a blast, Tanveer!!! It is a pleasure to see your pictures and TL and this one will be awesome too. You guys being close to Himalayas are so lucky that you can pack your bags and just drive on. Keep it coming. We love it.

WoW. Lovely pictures Tanveer.
Absolutely stunning narration. Man I envy your run to Ladakh just like that.

Picture of Tents at Chandratal

Unfortunate - We can only rate 5 stars. But you deserve all the stars from those two nice pictures of yours

Dazzling illustrations Tanveer. I guess there is no other forum over internet other than this forum, with so much information about Leh.

Amazing pictures and narration. BTW, what lenses were you using for the milky way picture?

Your night shots are surreal Tanveer!!! The milky way shot and the reflection shots gave me goose bumps. Rating the thread 5*s.

Awaiting your updates

Re: 18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again

great start. Wonderful pictures & narrations. I am craving for more. Though I have read a number of Ladakh/Leh dairies, its very rare to see a Night sky photo in those (if any). And the milky way photo was truly mind blowing - looks like it was straight out of the NASA archive.

Bring it on!

Mods: Please permit me to put down just one line.

For the old hindi movie aficionados - the only thing left to say is - "Lahaul-wilakuwat"...

Last time Overdrive plagiarized your thread. This time picture 6 of the 6th post at page No1 will be used by Airtel for their ad.
Nice pictures and a well compiled narration of a unique kind. Looking for more.

Re: 18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again

For me visiting Ladakh is a dream come true, whenever I plan the leave application, it gets rejected as I had to apply for >10 days leave at a stretch. However, this type of threads and lively pics make me feel I'am there in Ladakh itself. I'am glued to this

Day 3 #2 : To Chandertaal!

It was past noon when we resumed our journey on the wonderful track made by public wrecking department

The beauty of such tracks is that they look like WRC grade gravel tracks in pictures. Perfect for that 120kmh drift around the corner. In real life, anything above 20 will break you, your vehicle, and everything else in your vehicle. Since the white elephant has the snaky habit of shedding parts, I did not want to take chances. After all, if the engine fell of here, what to do!

The "Vehicle" shot
18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again-dsc5879lrl.jpg

As you progress towards Chotta Dhara, it gets rockier.
18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again-dsc5882lrl.jpg

Its supposed to get wetter too, but the streams have dried by now. Nevertheless, with oncoming tempo travellers we had a hairy moment when I had to climb over some big rocks to let them pass
A pic of the "rocky road"

Near Batal
18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again-dsc5889lrl.jpg

View from the rear of the dhaba at Batal. This place has a satellite phone, and food. Almost every vehicle which passes stops here
18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again-dsc5890lrl.jpg

Also stopping here were two cyclists. One of them was an European woman, who had cycled from Nepal, done Padum, Manali leh highway, and was no on her final leg. I always feel awed by such people. Bikes are still understandable, but "cycle"!!?

Finally it was around 2 when we crossed the bridge and started our climb

This is the lovely wide expressway like road which leads to the lake. Its almost as wide has the white elephant

The river Chandra
18 Passes, 15 lakes and 2 breakdowns : Ladakh and Lahaul call again-dsc5893lrl.jpg
We saw a couple of taxis approaching,so decided to wait here, the "pass" spot. Look at the road width.

After this the track worsens., Earlier you could go 3kms before the lake. Now, a series of hairpins lead you up. However, they are designed for a M800, not the Starship enterprise. So be prepared for multi 3 point turns.

Finally, its afternoon when we reach the "Parking lot". We were expecting a totally deserted lake, off season and all, and its a party here.
