Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

My son wanted to visit the zoo for a long time. I had a holiday on the day following Diwali and so did he - and we decided to visit Delhi Zoo on that day.

Incidently it was children's day and the start of Trade fair - with the trade fair not being open to general public yet, which resulted in all the people who had turned up inadvertently for trade fair - came to visit Delhi zoo as well.

It was a record turnout in Delhi Zoo on that day - around 17K plus people visited Delhi zoo on that day.

It was a fun experience - with him getting to see some exotic animals and me being able to click them at close range.

Let the pics do the talking now.

re: Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

Delhi Zoo gave us opportunity to see some animals that we would never see on Indian soil otherwise.

Did we enjoy our expedition - we sure did. The zoo was nice, weather was ok and even with the high number of people it was not chaotic and definitely not dirty and dingy.

I think the zoo authorities have done a good job.

We are always being treated to such beautiful wildlife by you on your various visits to the national parks .Now you have showcased the wild animals at the Zoo.
Thanks to your son who motivated the trip and we again have a set of beautiful pictures from you.

Re: Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

Thanks for the photos, it is great to see pics of animals.
Hope your son had a good time.
The baby hippo looks cute!

It is sad to see animals behind bars - they should be roaming around freely, but we humans have decided where the other animals should live. Such a shame.

Imagine seeing these animals in the wild!

Re: Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

Delhi Zoo is one of the better maintained zoos in India. The variety may not be too diverse but it does have all the must see animals for a kid.

The lion in the pic looks sick. There one very good section of parrots/birds. I am not sure if you are going to cover that too.

Yes. It was a good trip both my son and me had a good time, the only downside was walking the entire stretch and eatables are not allowed inside the zoo, so we were both tired and famished by the time we got out.

But then, the paranthas that we had packed tasted specially good after such a long walk!

Yes, animals behind bars is not good - but i think if they are cared for properly and basic amenities maintained - can still be ok. The things that i didnt like was leopards and Jaguars were inside small enclosures and not given a bigger area.

Thanls Taurean. We did go towards the parrots/birds section but somehow the enclosures are so badly lit that it is very difficult to take pictures so dont have their pics.

Last set of pics from the day

Emu - this is the second largest bird in the world and a native of Australia

This concluded our trip to the zoo, the only "miss out" was royal bengal tigers - we couldnt find their enclosures, even went back once after taking some directions - but both of us were so tired that we simply gave it up after that. Came out to the parking and the first thing that we did was to break out the packed paranthas and devour them. The pleasure was simply sublime.

I think i made a mistake at the beginning of not booking seats on the battery operated vehicle that plys there. If we had done that we could have covered the distance in comfort.

Also - another thing was that the big cats were at the end of the tour, so by the time we got to them light was failing. Next time we will do the trip upside down.

Thanks for visiting the thread and liking it - means a lot and justifies the efforts put up!

Re: Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

Great pics Sachin.

I also took my daughter to the zoo a couple of days ago. She enjoyed it tremendously. We were there for over 3 hours and walked and walked and walked. Even though we were dead tired by the end of it we felt it was better to walk around than take the battery operated vehicle.

Honestly the Delhi Zoo exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend it to people with kids.

Re: Children's day: Trip to the Delhi Zoo

Lovely pics, loved the baby hippo and the painted storks, although all the snaps were nice. Really sad to see such magnificient creatures in captivity, but atleast the Delhi zoo is amongst the better maintained zoos in India.

Hope your son had an enjoyable time with you.
