My Corvette & the Valley of Fire State Park

A generally quiet Saturday morning, mild weather and the better half wanting some space for herself, it couldn't be a more opportune time for a leisurely drive to the Valley of Fire state park, less than an hours drive from Vegas. Been wanting to go there for a while and get to check out the area. The name of the park is self evident from the photographs, it's Flaming Red everywhere. Just an outlandish place. One of many around Vegas.

For those who have seen the movie "Total Recall", some of the Martian scenes from the movie were filmed here.

Vegas and Mars. Fitting indeed.

And to top it, I get to spent some quality time with the 'vette and get some much delayed shots of the car around some great locales.

Just spent couple of hours around the area so, really couldn't really didn't cover a lot of the area and get a lot of shots. Please bear with me if they look just 'blase' after some of the amazing recent posts here.

The photos are more from the point of view of the park as it is relates to an auto enthusiasts rather than, an attempt to document the essence of the park itselft.

Hope you guys/gals enjoy it.

The entrance to the park. The 'vette looks eager to pounce on that juicy looking road.

Excellent photographs. The skies look like you've painted them blue. And are those roads of black carpets? Dang!

I am sure the Vette got Wet just by seeing the tarmac.

A solo drive in an ambience like that is still a dream for me to accomplish.

Did you by any chance drive past Zzyzx Road? I remember spotting that some 3 years ago and never was able to pronounce that right even today!

The ZZyzx weird name road comes up when you drive from LA. This park is towards North-East Vegas.

Re: My Corvette & the Valley of Fire State Park

Great shots man!!

I am curious... how do they maintain the roads so beautifully in the middle of the desert? I never quite understood that.

Looks like the road was laid right before those pics were shot.

What a lovely car. The Corvette looks absolutely stunning. Lovely pics too. Have not yet seen the video of the drive, but I am going to do that really soon and I am sure it would be epic.

Re: My Corvette & the Valley of Fire State Park

Lovely pics VLOCT. Thanks for sharing. The shining black tarmac looks so tempting. Lot of options to drive around from Vegas if you like this kind of landscape. Did you manage to open up vette's legs? I was amused by your better half's need for personal space, doesnt happen too often to me .

Quite a mirage, that country, I say... great roads, lovely open spaces, powerful cars, but infested with lifeless automatics and drivers choked by a stringent speed limit enforcement (the penalties for breaking of which inevitably lead one to regret!). Truly, safety first there, and that's a kill-joy. In my experience, the opportunity to enjoy a good drive in the States does not come too often. Not being judgmental or critical, but just an observation...

Even so, I have no doubt that snaking a Corvette a few mph over the limit on those roads must have been really SOMETHING, though! What was the speed limit?
