Day 01
11th April 2013
Masinagudi

Setting sun was beautiful

Much so behind the trees

An attempt to catch the rays!

There is a school there

It was already too late, but then we decided to take a chance to drive to Mudhumalai to see if we can sight any wild life.

We saw this fellow en route

He was a cutie pie

So calm

We reached Theppekkadu Elephant Feeding Camp by 18:15 hours.

We went inside

There was this board, but no one collected anything from us

For a moment we thought we will only see this much!

But then we decided to walk further inside to the camp

There was a veterinary dispensary too there

There seemed to be an elephant there

Yes indeed, there was one elephant a few wild boars!

In a few moments many elephants came down for their evening meal

Calm

Beautiful

Composed

Sleepy

Naughty

Elegant

She gets her fill

He get his fill

It's an absolute delight to see them eat

Jr. PPG overwhelmed by the number of elephants she saw!!

Day 01

Masinagudi

By 18:30 hours we started our return to the resort.

Information to be noted. This road is closed from 10:00 PM to 06:00 AM

I see a TBHPian ahead

We reached the resort by 19:00 hours and straight away went for dinner. The dinner spread was awful and was too expensive for the location, but then we did not want to venture out.

We played some activities and Jr. PPG claimed the first place

We checked out the watch tower in the night!

Tried to enjoy a camp fire in Summer

Hammock was the best thing that could have happened!

By 22:00 hours we called it a day and retired.

Great Travelogue.

I go frequently to Masinagudi myself but am seeing it with new eyes after reading your TL.

Has there been any rains recently ? You mention that it is quite dry, but typically there are a few showers in May which make the area quite green. Singara Road is very green after a few showers and there is a point there called tiger point or leopard point because allegedly predators go there to do a survey before a hunt. I have never seen this place myself but did you hear anything about this ?

Thanks Deepak.

When I was there in April, one of the days there was a slight drizzle. Singara side was promoted by some local jeepers for sighting animals, but that was away from the normal route, they get into some restricted areas in the early morning for a cost of 3.5K. I did not try that so have no idea what is available.

Seems like you travel almost every weekend to some place or the other and you're almost always posting some travelogue - you have so many trips that are completed and canned and can write about them, like this one from April

How was the weather during your visit in April ?

How was the weather during April ?

Thanks NPV. April Masinagudi was hot at 30 degrees, but cooler than Bangalore. Bangalore was running at 36-37. Ooty was better at 22 degrees in the evenings.

Travel is the name of the game

Some trips from last year end, and two trips before that are still pending to be written about

After a very lazy breakfast I thought of doing some activity within the resort. I found that they were having some organic kitchen garden.

Tried a hand at farming

The land was too hard for me

Wifey enjoying the garden

Jr. PPG was exercising

Jr. PPG gets back to the cottage for some refreshments

Jr. PPG checks it out

The tower was taken already

We were not welcomed at the tower

I was very happy to see a sparrow after so long

She had a freshly plucked cherry

It was amazing to see her squeeze the juice from the cherry

Sher finally get the last drop out of it

It was quite relaxing to see these tiny birds enjoying their lives.

After a very lazy lunch, i slept of till evening. By around 17:00 hours I thought of taking a small drive around with PPGs.

Masinagudi was all dry

Intriguing

The area was completely dry

It was 17:30 hours. Me and PPGs decide to drive to Ooty just for fun

It was 33 degrees at Masinagudi by 17:30 hours

Masinagudi is 963 meters above sea level, around 150m above Bangalore

Ooty was another 20 KM more

First of the 36 hairpins

It was 24 degrees at Ooty

Ooty was 2200 meters above sea level. We climbed around 1250 metres in 10 kilometers

Ooty welcomed us

Jr. PPG was so happy to be back

We saw people in sweater in Summer

IT was getting colder by every moment, temperature dropped to 23 degrees

Confirmed Ooty's altitude once more. Its around 2200 meters

By 18:00 hours we decided to go back to Masinagudi

Ooty was 9 KM from here

It was definitely cold there, Jr.PPG was chilled!

By 18:30 we reached Kalhatty Check post

It is closed from 10:00PM to 06:00AM

Kalhatty Waterfalls was totally dry

It was getting dark pretty soon

Some information you can use

By 18:45 we left Kalhatty

By 19:15 we entered the reserve

The roads to Masinagudi intrigued us

We reached the resort by 19:45.
