Re: Roadtrip to The Middle of Nowhere... Monyul (Tawang) and More

Why did the chicken cross the road? That kind of question can get modified so often when one travels across Assam.

Why did the ducks cross the road?

Why did the cows and the cyclist cross the road?

Oh well, how about - why did the elephant not cross the road?

I know the answer to the last one - because it stopped in the middle and started begging from truck drivers!

The cow had pressing duties in the field across the road.

As the morning progressed, the circus started up on the highway...

...and we carried on towards Guwahati.

Getting into Guwahati via the north bank means crossing the Brahmaputra at Saraighat - and the both the road condition and the traffic situation are not to my liking at all!

Not that I think the traffic situation is as bad as to cause anyone a heart attack, but then, just in case...

...given the state of affairs in most of the sarkari hospitals across the country, one really doesn't want to take chances!

However, we are already on our way across the river, destination: the Kamakhya Temple on top of the neighboring hill.

I could not comment earlier due to a very busy schedule.
Thank you doc for the detailed travelogue.

Brings back a lot of memories from my travel on these same roads back in Dec 2009.

@SS, Looks like you have finished the travelogues. So I've a question:- Would you repeat it? Would you recommend it to people who would have to travel halfway across the country for it?

Regards
Sutripta

Just a few more pics from Guwahati that I haven't got around to processing and resizing, but yes, I've essentially finished the travelogue. Will post the rest of the pics soon.

Would I repeat the trip? Maybe. Places along the way need a more detailed look-see, and who would miss out on the opportunity to meet up with an old school friend again? But then, finding another 10 days to do the trip - it'll have to wait a long time again!

Would I recommend the trip? Definitely. Anyone with a love for the mountains and wilderness, an interest in different cultures and our country's history, and people who want to drive on roads that test their own & their vehicles' abilities - here's a place that shouldn't be missed out on.

Re: Roadtrip to The Middle of Nowhere... Monyul (Tawang) and More

Sir, I do not know how many days you have done the trip (not able to recollect from the earlier posts) but it took me several days to read and 'experience' your travelogue. I could not 'just' scroll down through the several photographs without spending considerable time watching them, for two reasons. One, almost for majority of the photographs, you had some thing to say - tons of details, most apt and witty; second, each photograph had so many indepth details which takes time to sink in.

So some how, took several hours - spread over many days - going through this Wonderful Travelogue. Thank you for the same.

This sir, is life. Some times I pity myself (self pity) for not being born in such places and lead such good life no matter what my profession would have been.

Re: Roadtrip to The Middle of Nowhere... Monyul (Tawang) and More

Thanks a ton - SS for the amazing coverage. A few questions, though.

Was your purpose tourism or business ? (just curious to know)
Was it a new Fortuner ? No number plates (with nos, i mean)
The roads remind me of Darjeeling / Sikkim.

The golden question - Kitna diya Fortuner ne ? (KPL)

Wow! lovely travelogue, a bit different from the regular ones. Don't know how I had missed this one before. Did you repeat the trip or are you planning to do it anytime soon? The Fortuner, with the blanked out number plate, seems very familiar.
