Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Awesome thread, with beautiful pictures.

Every-time i see a Leh TL i feel like relocating to Gurgaon for sometime as from there driving upto Leh would be more manageable as compared to doing the same thing from Bangalore.

We southerlies miss such serene mountains. Keep those pictures coming.

How did XUV performed, without the AWD?

Debuda, your TL sneaked up on me. I was expecting an announcement on our usual forums "XUV niggles" or "XUV Review". But after going through it "dil bhar gaya". Speechless at the way you have captured the scenic beauty.

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

6,576 km drive around one of the most beautiful mountains and valleys, truly inspiring. Thanku for such wonderful pictures. I am also planning to book for a XUV 5oo shortly, so was even more eager for your report on your trip. Thanks again for sharing your epic experience.

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Thanks Debuda for the wonderful write up and amazing pics. Not certain but I think this is the 1st XUV travelogue to Leh. Good that other than a minor hiccup the car held up well through the journey. Did you feel a significant drop in power at high altitude?

Yes, above about 13,000 feet the reduction of engine power was significant -- maybe 15-20%.

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Excellent travelogue Debuda. So you managed to fulfill your Leh trip dreams on your beast. Fantastic photographs to compliment the lucid write up. Your decision about early starts at higher altitudes also helped you to beat the higher snow melts as the day progresses and the sun becomes harsher. During peak day hours the water flow becomes so high that water crossings sometimes become impossible. We had a bad experience when we did our trip in July 2010 and had to postpone our Khardung La visit. I am wondering what next is left to conquer now . Maybe the far throes of Arunachal or a longish South India trip is on the cards?

Fantastic travelogue with wonderful pictures. Good camera and imagination. Also the landscape is such that dark blue sky is in good contrast with the brown land with white clouds in sky. All colors too look well saturated

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Awesome pictures Sir Ji. Reminded of our trip to Leh in 2011.
During our drive , we are asked to take bypass at Lamayuru. As some maintenance work was in progress. Must say the terrain there is awesome.

Also I didn't see the photograph at Magnetic Hill ? That too was an interesting experience for kids.

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Sir,

Went through your travelogue with zeal over the last hour. I read it aloud in pieces to the entire family post lunch today. Most appreciated were the photos, composition and quality alike.

I visited Kashmir last Sept, and felt nostalgic reading yours. Ours was by flight till Srinagar and by hired vehicle to Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, etc.

Jamshedpur to Ladakh in XUV 500 prompted my brother-in-law to start thinking, asto how it will be to take his Safari to Kashmir, (from Kolkata), which was promptly rubbished by his sister.

Jamshedpur is his "mama-bari" (mother's hometown), and Dhanbad is my hometown. Nostalgia of course need not be quoted.

Great reading it sir.

Regards,
Saurav

Re: Drive to Kashmir Valley & Ladakh in my XUV500

Wonderful triplog Debuda, another bumper one from your side. Loved the crisp narration and the sharp pictures. Some of the snaps of your XUV can safely pass as advertisement material. My two take away’s from this 1) XUV can do things without much of a botheration 2) I have to retire first to enjoy such a freedom. Next time you are in Kolkata, lets catch up like we did last time.
