Photologue: The Lakes of Bangalore

Hi, came across some beautiful lakes in Bangalore. Posting some pics here. I am sure many of you would have clicked similar pics of Bangalore lakes. Post them here.

Here are some pics of Sarjapur lake, just 2 km from my home in Bangalore. This lake was cleaned and rejuvenated few years back and just see how beautiful it has turned out to be. It is a pleasure to sit there and watch the birds.

Apparently there were some 400 lakes in Bangalore interconnected through canals ensuring a high water table and excellent habitat for birds and animals. Hopefully more lakes will get restored like this one.

Pictures were taken with Sony SLT A58, Tamron 70-300mm zoom and kit lens.

Hoping to add more pictures soon.

Thank you

Vindy

Nice thread. Can you also name the lakes? These snaps look like Madivala lake?

If I am not mistaken, these are all snaps of Kaikondrahalli lake on Sarjapur Road. A beautiful spot in the middle of the concrete jungle and 'IT Corridor' of Sarjapur/Outer Ring Road.

Some snaps of this lake from my side.

Hi Rajeev,

Yes you are right, its the same lake. I am yet to go there during sunset. From your snap it seems that it would be a good experience.

Ampere, thank you.

Great pics. This is one of the few lakes I guess which is now in better condition than earlier. I have heard stories how Bellandur lake was having clear water and people used to swim in the same, these days it is even difficult to drive through the road next to lake due to stench.
Since you have mentioned you stay near Sarjapur road you can check out Kasavanahalli lake off Haralur road. It is a beautiful lake hidden from road, you need to take the left just before compound of Prestige Ferns residency.

Very good thread VindyWheels

I used to frequent to Madiwala lake with my little one in the mornings and it was much better view few years ago than now. I will try to pull out some pics from past to post here from my archive. During Jan-March, its always a great scene to see a lot of migratory birds and beautiful sunrise. A very good place to be here everyday around 6am to 8am!

The one in Hulimavu is a large lake too. Especially in this season, we can see some painted storks and pelicans here. See this link - http://goo.gl/LV58GM Although this lake is slightly in internal areas from main roads, its getting increasingly unapproachable due to nearby apartment construction and garbage being dumped on the approach roads on east side.

Hi Suhas,

Thank you for that info, Kasavanahalli lake is next on my list.

Abirnale, Thank you. I have seen the Hulimavu lake, did not see any birds last time I went there. Have you been there recently?

Is Madiwala lake the one near BTM Layout with a park?

Cheers

Nice thread. Here are a few shots of the Madiwala Lake. Lately they have started cleaning it which is a good news. Its a HUGE lake and morning/evening walks around it would be pretty pleasant(provided its maintained clean).

Currently there's a park built at one side where usually people go for morning exercise/walks/jogs. In the evening you have the option to Boat around as well (courtesy: Madiwala Boating Club) but with the kind of stinking smell its not really enjoyable

re: Photologue: The Lakes of Bangalore

Awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing.

I wish if all the lakes in Bangalore (as it was once called as city of lakes) are maintained well with good water, we wouldn't have ended up having tanker lorries ruling the roads (especially in bangalore east ) and serving all concrete jungles !

Thanks Ravi,

A question to all - Why do you think some of the trees are white in color? We had a debate when we saw the white trees

Cheers

Super thread. Even better photographs.

Quiet a stark contrast in images. Please let me know if you plan to cover any of the North Bangalore lakes. Would love to join you.

Quick Edit:

Most Bangalore lakes do not have boating facility as they disturb the birds.

Hi Mafia,

Thank you. It was very sunny and the light was a bit harsh, I had to increase the contrast to make the pics look decent.

Will surely let you know if I get a chance to drive north. Just realized from others posts here that there are quite a few places nearby itself

Re: Photologue: The Lakes of Bangalore

Maybe we could also add information about missing lakes ie lakes that have now been filled up and layouts have sprung up. There was one in Chikkalsandra/Padmanabhanagar in Bangalore and was filled up 2 decades ago. A private layout came up on that piece of land. I dont see a kere ie lake at Channamankere near Bsk 3rd stage. There used to be huge lake in JP Nagar which is guess is now filled up and apartments have come up on it. The JP Nagar lake was closure to Ragigudda.

Chennamankere is now a big layout , you are right. There used to be a lake near Ragi Gudda (that's what I heard from my father ). The only lake left near JP Nagar is Puttenhalli Kere . I heard that there will be a clean up drive sometime shortly. AFAIK , there is still a lake in Sarakki . Not sure though.
