Hanle was on our radar, it was another place Pathan had not covered in the last 5 visits.

All 3 were army metal ones. They actually can carry approx. 22l each.

Re: Tata Safari Storme flies to Heaven - Ladakh

Day 12- Sissu-Rohtang-Manali

We had planned to leave early from sissu, so as to avoid traffic in rohtang. but eventually we got late and left around 8:30. The boys painted there legendary "He He He" laugh on the car.

We stopped by the sissu lake to admire the views around, and then continued our climb to rohtang.

The landscape keeps on changing as we climb up, from green valley to white cliffs.

The road had a lot of water filled craters, and a lot of Indian Oil truck convoy trafficm which meant we had to stop at a lot of locations to give way. Just before the top of Rohtang, there was a deep and long water crossing. We saw a truck's tyre 3/4 in the water. The cars in front of us stopped, but we went through it. It was scary, but we managed to cross this long (atleast 15-20 ft.) water crossing. Post this we stopped to celebrate the victory over Rohtang.

As we crossed over to manali side, sadness filled our hearts. We had come back to our chaotic world, saw hoards of people, no traffic sense, parking anywhere, and above all exclusivity had ended. We knew the trip was getting over. Took 5 hours to reach Manali from Rohtang top, because of the Jam created by the people.

We stayed in Manali for the day. Day 13, we left manali and drove whole day to reach Delhi by night. Day 14, we reached back to Jaipur.

Children of Laddakh

The people of Laddakh are very friendly and joyful. We had a lot of encounters with children of this region, and were fortunate enough to capture a few, and trade some sweets for some amazing smiles. Special thanks to our pathan for these images.

Thanks for the kind words and compliments. Nubra to pangong, we did by returning back to leh. So no idea there. Same for pangong to Tso moriri as we were sent back to leh from chulshul. But this one's doable.

Tso moriri to sarchu, any day is doable.

The average you get in city is the same you'll get in hills. For me it was around 10-10.5 km per liter. So we carried 55l in safari's tank and 65l in cans. As we did not want to buy fuel from jerrycans. Also this made sure we had fuel for leh- pangong- Tso moriri-sarchu-manali. Just in case the key long pump doesn't work! You need to worry if you go to pangong directly from Nubra.

Awesome travelogue. You've exercised great restraint and you never bore reading through it at any point. The photos are also awesome. This is on my list too which includes acquiring and preparing an SUV for it too. Maybe someday. Inshallah.

Thanks for the compliments. I haven't exercised restraint, cat caught my tongue, I don't have words to express what we saw. It is a mesmerizing experience, and all I know is I am destined to go back again and again and again....
I wish you luck for your trip.

Great travelogue Stormerider and awesome pics.Good to see a fellow Jaipurite on the forum. Though there're numerous travelogues of Ladakh but still it was fun going through yours. I liked the spontaneity and flexibility of you guys about your travel plans. Leh-ladakh are in my bucket list too. Hope to do it soon.

Great travelogue stormerider. Loved every part of it. When we did this circiut, we missed out on the Hanle part due to a goof up with fuel strategy. It looks great, need to make it next time. Till then, checking out your pics.

Hanle is so far out, that fuel strategy becomes crucial whether you go from chulshul or chumathang side. Last station you get is leh or Karu (which is only 35 km from leh, so hardly any distance), from here on you will get fuel only in Tandi or keylong which requires crossing many treacherous roads and passes and the mighty Baralacha la.
