Re: My European Sojourns: Off To The Netherlands

We reach the hotel around 13:30, dot on time as suggested by the Nav. Checkin was a smooth affair, the room was not too big but cozy and comfortable. We ordered some chicken saute with bean sauce (this is an 'easier name than the tongue twister mentioned in the menu' ) with some bread while we checked in. While the lunch arrived, we settled in the room and straightened our backs. Finished off the lunch and we were ready to venture out. With no specific plan, the idea was to reach Amsterdam Central and walk towards the city center. A 10 min bus ride takes us across the IJ to the Amsterdam Central.

We walk towards the Damrak which is the main street going straight towards the city. Its like the station road or the Bahnhofstrasse in most European cities.

We two at Damark

While Damrak is a broad street it has a parallel small street called Nieuwendijk which is the main market area. Has all the major world brands lined up. We take this street.

The mid lane connecting the two streets in the afternoon sun.

We did some shopping for the folks back home and also got myself a pair of shoes apart from the mandatory fridge magnets.

Tried some reverse panning.

Someone who has visited Amsterdam would know its probably the only city in the world with more number of bicycles than people. Its the most visible object you will see when walking around.

Tried to capture the essence of the same.

Spending some time around, we move towards a lonely small street nearby.

And see this.

While I was trying this long exposure, the battery low warning popped up on the camera. Realized, we forgot to put it on charge last night.

Thought of saving some battery for better shots.

Lovely pics. I've never been to Europe, so was good to see the sights and places as you traverse through Europe.

Thanks for sharing.
