Re: Sagari Mahamarg - Drive through the Coastal Route of Maharashtra

I'm going to refer to this thread the next time I plan a Mumbai-Goa drive and am taking this route for sure! Many thanks for sharing. The other highway roads are just too mainstream . Also, you guys drove during perfect weather conditions too. The lush greenery and cloudy skies during the monsoons only adds to the overall experience of a road trip.

A couple of years ago, I remember watching a feature by an auto magazine showcasing the coastal road. It was then that I got really excited and called a couple of friends and planned to do this. That plan hasn't been implemented till date. After going through your thread, I'm once again going to persuade them and plan a trip soon.

Good photos and it always feels good driving over the west coast during rains.
And a start with Nitin's XUV pictures., hmm sounds auspicious

Another blockbuster from you Nandeep. A trip that I followed on social media is now a detailed travelogues. There is no better way to know your own country than drive yourself and your travelogue just shows us.

I vaguely recall Alok also wanting to do this trip eagerly in his SX4 and he actually did it with his family and came out with some brilliant pictures to complement the drive.

MSH4 is THE Road that hugs the coast closer than you think and on top of that, the awesome Konkani cuisine.

Superb narration and pictures, rated 5 stars!

I just saw that this travel was done 2 years ago. Any idea about the road conditions of the route you took from Candolim to Jaigad? Thanks!

Re: Sagari Mahamarg - Drive through the Coastal Route of Maharashtra

Just did this circuit on the Mahashivratri weekend albeit from Mumbai to Mithbav, just beyond Kunkeshwar.

The roads are decent, however the Bankot to Mandangad stretch is being re-tarred so the ride is painful. The really good roads start from Guhagar onwards.

Yes Parag, the best way to explore our own country is just drive down. The coastal route has numerous villages en-route which are still untouched. 5 days trip is ideal in my view. As far as I recollect Alok took a detour from Ganpatipule back towards Bangalore.

Roads from Candolim to Jaigad are in decent shape. Moreover this trip would be slow trip, the distance is not much, but views and places to explore are many so ultimately average speed would be 30 kmph including breaks for lunch and photography, try to start early in the morning.

Re: Sagari Mahamarg - Drive through the Coastal Route of Maharashtra

Hi Nandeep,
Your thread is just superb.
How you covered every minute detail of your trip and these photos are simply amazing.
And that sheet with the list of hotels and numbers is the cherry on top.
Your write-up will help me a lot covering that circuit.
Happy Motoring.

Oye NP,
you typed all this long travelogue?? Really?? ( I believe you) .

Nice travelogue with equally good pictures.
At Vengurla bandar ( port), there is a guesthouse on the hillock from where one can get good view of the coast.

Re: Sagari Mahamarg - Drive through the Coastal Route of Maharashtra

Can someone give an idea about the road conditions of Sagari Mahamarg right from Mumbai / Alibagh to Vengurla / Tirakol, Goa? I am planning a trip during september 2016 with family including kids. Would like to drive from 9 am to 7 pm everyday. Request suggestions about night stay also. Thanking in anticipation.

Very nice travelogue. It’s fun to travel with close friends.

What was the final odometer reading? What kind of FE did you get?
