wooow, Colour schemes!!!! At Thakthok Gompha. is just brilliant. Nice perspective.
Lamps at Shanti Stup - another favourite.
How did you manage to get enough details of the lamps without blowing out the highlights (meant the blue sky)???
EOS 1DS MarkII + 32 years of whatever you call it. :)

Multispot metering I suppose, he has all the details since he shot raw.
Good thing you guys decided to post the photos and trip log, as for the bad weather one cant control Mother Nature.

One thing that i noticed through out is that the hotel tariffs seems to be on the higher side, perhaps due to foreign tourists???? |
Depends where one is staying, you can easily get a double bed room with attached toilet in Leh for Rs. 200.
Am not a camera techie/enthusiast, but was simply blown away! Truly, truly spectacular shots. My favourite one is of the Lamps at Shanti Stup. Something in it about the serenity, I can't put my finger on it.
Wifey's asleep, shall show her these in the morning. She loved the last ones you sent around, Rudra. Many thanks for those as well... :)
Really wish I could have been there with you guys...

But still, no. of stops between and the shadow and highlights is quite high... to capture it in a single shot is just amazing...
its the right equipment in an experienced hand.
rudro, how did you manage it????please:
Take (imagine) all those tone as gray scale. You won't see too much of variations. Actually that one was with evaluative metering and I keep my exposure value (EV) 1.1/3 stop minus as standard.
Same sky in the next picture is actually the way it was. That little fuzzy tone on the glass is because of thin oil layer from those lamps..over a period of time.
Truly amazing trip / pics. Rudra-da, still looking for the appropriate superlative adjective to describe your shots. My fav: Color scheme at Thakthok.

One can sit back and relish Canoning every moment or one can do Gypsy runs to try to catch every instance. A combination of both (part of careful trip planning) gave us the most beautiful pics (yours) and a complete pic album (mine).
I guess I will have to come to Bangalore to have same friendly discussions with you in the evenings over ZingZingBar !!!
My compliments to you for truly such nice pics :Cheering: which I couldn't see all in Delhi.
That's a life time experience and trip.Rudra sir..your work amuze me and the pictures are simply great !.
It's not the hi-tech equipment ,it depends on the person who handles it !.
Hats off Sir !
Rudra/Ajay,
Amazing trip diary and superb photos. Waiting when I would do such a trip in my life!

great report ajay, has been so worth the wait.
i am so glad i didnt open this thread while at work today.
manson.
Great travelogue and great pictures. It must have been a experience of a lifetime.
Re the pictures, the two of you seem to have two distinct styles wrt framing, composistion and whatever it is that you call the colour-scale/contrast thing. In Ajay's post, I could almost always differentiate which was taken by whom.
Someday, I too will go up there, but come back with terrible pictures...
