Day 14: Manali - Kullu - Kiratpur Sahib - Ambala - Back to Gurgaon

Our hotel in Manali was excellent. We both had a strange feeling after coming back into civilization since our eyes had gotten used to minuscule number of people around us during this entire trip. However, it was awesome to have hot shower, excellent food and basic amenities such as TV and Wifi.

Our Room in Manali...

Had excellent Balcony and very nice view, Byas River was flowing nearby and we had an Apple Orchard just outside our balcony.

Flood news on TV... it had been raining a lot in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Nepal during previous 2 days, resulting in flood like situation in major rivers flowing down in plains...

We packed up stuff, got ready, had breakfast and checked out. Realized that one of the tire was leaking air, there was no puncture, but the air pressure was surely less.

Byas River was also flowing quite furiously at some places...

Day 14: Manali - Kullu - Kiratpur Sahib - Ambala - Back to Gurgaon - CONTINUED

Like I mentioned in the post above, we did have this strange feeling with so many people and vehicles around us. Damn it was just the first day of our return into populated areas and we were missing our time in Ladakh already!

Met with a fellow TeamBHPian who had been following us from Manali, we had a good little catch up just after crossing Mandi.

Road conditions just after you cross Mandi town are disastrous and there was quite a long traffic jam.

Luckily, we managed to cross it in reasonable time and continued our way back into the plains...

Back on the road again... NH1 Drive from Ambala to Delhi was uneventful and we covered the distance in about 3 hours...

And this makes the end of the trip. Our apologies for breaking the whole travelogue into bits and pieces since we both have been occupied with other stuff since we completed this amazing trip. It was a memorable journey and plenty of the memories and pictures from this trip will go into our Archives.

There was a Toyota service centre at the back street but with no boards, it was a sub dealer kind of service centre and they were working on an Innova and few other Toyotas parked. The mechanic had a lot, we discussed what happened, and our guess was right, they confirmed cars do heat up at that stretch and a quick check later they confirmed car was perfectly fine. Fortunately they had the genuine Toyota coolant, old one mixed with water was drained, new one was filled and we bought a few spare bottles. The team at service centre was excellent.

I had a similar issue recently with my 2.7ltr Fortuner Petrol visiting Khasab in Oman, vehicle started getting heated with gauge above half way mark and we could feel the heat inside, could not stop as the road was narrow so reduced the throttle completed the climb and on the downhill stretch in a few minutes the gauge was back to 1/3rd where it normally sits. The vehicle was recently serviced for 200k kms and coolant was flushed, as you have rightfully pointed out there is a lot of dependency on the ambient conditions, airflow etc which will result in the vehicle overheating.

Re: Overlanding in Ladakh: Exploring the less explored routes in a Toyota Fortuner

Wow, some of the pics you took in - "Day 7 Tongul-Rangdum-Pensi La-Padum continued…" are just astonishingly jaw dropping. Absolutely amazing adventure especially I liked your travel through Sach Pass. Wish I could get these many days break to emulate the adventure. Kudos to .anshuman and guys.
