Junge Klassiker - Young German Classics drive to Khandala

As an automobile enthusiast and a photography aficionado, I try and keep myself abreast with any meets and drives that keep happening around. Modern exotics, vintages and veterans from the yore or young-timers from the recent past, it is always a fun time around these cars and their owners with plethora of knowledge and a lot of stories that come with ownership of such cars. Recently went on one such drive, with a group which calls itself Mercedes-Benz India Owners (MBIO), a Mercedes-Benz owner and car centric group, and while it was not the first one I've been at, it sure is one of the nicely documented one's. Not a very long drive per se, but I thought it would be nice to share it on here for people to see the pictures that I've compiled. And btw, Junge Klassiker means Young Classics in German

A brief intro into the drive planning and the cars involved.

3rd & 4th of May 2018
A group of car owners from Mumbai begin to plan a quick-fire breakfast trip to Khandala, departing at the stroke of dawn and returning before noon, which sounded just about right looking at the rising mercury as the day progresses.
I had been assigned the duty of dropping and picking my brother from his competitive exams on the D-day, so I decide to drop out from the plan.

5th of May 2018
As luck would have it, the examination centre turned out to be RIGHT before the start of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway! A couple quick of messages to friends who had planned to join the drive and after checking with the times, and I had a solid plan with all timings of the drive matching with mine and I was on my way!!

6th of May 2018

6:30AM – I leave my house, reach the exam centre, park my car, wish my brother luck and ensure he goes into the exam centre.

7:15AM – As the car convoy reached the Vashi Toll my friends, in the GLA200 pictured below, headed out to pick me up and we caught up with the others in no time. A small group was joining in from Pune as well I was told!

Cars Present

1. X156 Mercedes-Benz GLA200
2. W201 Mercedes-Benz 190E
3. W124 Mercedes-Benz E220
4. W123 Mercedes-Benz 300D
5. W140 Mercedes-Benz S320
6. W210 Mercedes-Benz E320
7. W212 Mercedes-Benz E220
8. R171 Mercedes-Benz SLK200
9. E34 BMW 525tds
10. E93 BMW M3
11. C7 Audi S6
12. Triumph StreetTwin

Attaching some pictures I and Madhav Thanawala clicked en-route, at the breakfast venue [The Dukes Retreat] and on the way back. Not a massive number of cars but I reckoned this warranted creating a new thread so as to keep uploading pictures as and when I get the chance to click and more join such drives and keep them compiled in one single thread.

Hope you'll enjoy the images!

Lovely pictures RMan. I would anytime take the squared lights Mercs over any of the modern cars. Can we have some interior pics of each of the cars?

Oh man, I narrowly missed seeing these legends. On the same Sunday, I had taken the Freestyle to Lonavla for a test-drive & lunch.

Thanks for sharing these pics, RMan! That is one lineup of legendary cars, including the W123 & W140. And each seems to be very well kept. Only one missing is a W126 .

Please tell the W124 owner that he's got his unidirectional tyre (front right) mounted the wrong way.

One of the best ways to spend a Sunday . So convenient because Lonavla is so close. My usual new car test-drive scene is to leave at 1100 hours, arrive at Sunny's Dhaba around 1300 hours, leave from there at 1400 and am home watching a movie on my recliner by 1600. Enough time to recharge before a night out.

Thanks again for sharing! This thread will be going to our homepage.

Thanks for sharing, absolutely droolworthy each one of them.

Always been fascinated and loved that old relic Red BMW 5 series.

Hats off to owners, so well maintained too.

Was just thinking the same thing! The W140 and W124 were the highlights of the entire drive and the W201 was the cherry on the cake! Dang I wish I could see more pics of the trio super classics! Loved the alloys on the W140...made it look so gangster like!

Actually in this case the tyres are Asymmetrical (not Directional). So they are mounted correctly.

With an asymmetrical tread pattern, the tyres on the left will have the tread run in one direction, while the ones on the right will have the tread run in the opposite direction!

The important thing is that the labeling on the sidewall (outside & inside) be followed.

With these tyres (Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta) you can see that the single continuous groove/band is always on the inner side.

Those W140 are absolutely drool worthy. The current crop of Mercedes look great but nothing close W140. These seem to have got a fresh coat of paint and the gloss is making the newer cars look lacklustre.

To me the W124's, the W140's simply stole the show. And then there was the beautiful black 190E, where did that come from?? Looks stunning!!!

Ah! This drive was really early, to avoid the traffic mainly. These cars run the best when given empty roads.

Glad you liked the pics! The 525tds is pristine! I love it too but it takes a backseat over the owners other car - a 560SEC

The 124 sits way lower than other 124s, and the 140 is mint as well! The AMG Monoblocks on the 140 (same as the 124 and 201 as well) are stunning. Simple yet brilliant!

I don't think any car apart from the W201 is recently painted, although I'm not too sure of this. They are fantastically maintained though!

The W201, like I mentioned, is a recently done up car. Another kitted and winged W201 is around, and I shall try and get both together for a nice photo-op

Those are amazing vehicles.Nice to see these beauties tastefully maintained and in a ride worthy state. Is there a registration page where I could register and join the MBIO. I own a W212 E 350 that has only 3000 kms after almost 9 months of ownership and could seriously do with some more reasons to get it out.
