Re: A 2000 km road-trip to Jaisalmer

Nice travelogue.
I had been to Jaisalmer on official trip way back in 2013.
But luckily got some holidays in between. So was able to cover sam sand dunes, camel safari. I missed the border though.
You should have visited the fort. Even though its rush, its worth spending time for the architecture and antique war pieces.

Yes. But we were short of time and it was too crowded. Anyway, something for the next visit

Re: A 2000 km road-trip to Jaisalmer

Your trip is reminiscent of the road trip I did it in Dec 2018 with my family! Jaisalmar is very beautiful place for family visit. Food & place is perfect getaway from city hustle bustle Off course roads are beautiful and you won't get bored of driving in such roads. There are stretches while coming from Ahmedabad towards Jaisalmer where you literally wanted roads not to end. Beautiful scenery and well laid out roads - a driver's delight.

Visit to Longewala and BP609 was awesome with excellent roads as cherries on the cake. Attaching my road trip route. Added good 6500 kms to my odo.

Last but not the least my car never shied away giving its selfies 320d is the most photogenic car!

Did you happen to encounter a herd of Tata Hexa cars during your trip to Jaisalmer? I was part of the annual Hexa owners meet-up which we had planned from 24-27th December. We were about 40 of us.
Hey. I spotted the convoy. We reached the Tanot Mata Temple around the same time on 24th Dec and spotted the gang there. But I guess you didn't take the Tanot-Longewala route since I observed the convoy headed back to Jaisalmer direction from the temple.

Yes, we did Longewala first, then Tanot Maata.

I found this on their website: +919587465564

I seem to have lost the number from my phonebook.

While going, we took following route: Gurgaon > Sikar > Nagaur > Phalodi > Pokhran > Jaisalmer.

While returning, we wanted to make a stop at our home town Jaipur. So, we returned via Jodhpur. It was not the best choice at that time as some parts of the highway were under construction.

How are the road conditions on sikar -nagaur-phalodi route.
I was keen to take ggn - jaipur - jodhpur route as it will be mostly double lane NH instead of single lane State highways in the other route.

Roads were excellent except a short stretch before Phalodi. My advice would be to take this route as you will really enjoy driving on beautiful empty roads. No traffic and plane smooth tarmac running through the plains of Rajasthan.

Completed the trip this Sunday.
Route taken was - gurgaon-ajmer-pali-jodhpur-pokhran-jaisalmer.
It was appx around 890 kms from my home to Jaisalmer. Able to complete it in 13 hrs with 3 breaks while going. Left at 5.30 in moening and reached jaisalmer at 6.15 in evening. Superb roads, proper 4 lane super smooth roads till jodhpur, after jodhpur though the road is single lane but it's also too good to drive, not even a single pothole.
While returning also took the same route but it took 15hrs due to weekend rush and jams due to trucks from jaipur to Gurgaon.

Re: A 2000 km road-trip to Jaisalmer

Hi shashankjain16 & dieselburner,

We are group of 9 adults (& 6 kids) planning trip to Jaisalmer, so need your inputs on # of days to be kept in mind, places to visit, where to stay & what should not be missed at all, along with budget for trip.

I wish to include Jodhpur as well, provided all can be done in 4 days. I stay in North Delhi & are planning around Feb 20, 2020 (close to my 10th anniversary).

@shashankjain16 - I follow you on YouTube as well (Born idiots) & totally enjoy all your vlogs. Keep traveling mate.
