Re: Hampi - Birds, Bears and Beautiful Temples

Well taken shots. I was there during Aug 3rd to 5th this year. The temples and the ruins can transport you in time if history is something that fascinates you.

The drive to Daroji made me ask myself if i was on the right route, finally after reaching there, apart from myself and wife, there was just another family, no one else. After about 30 mins of waiting we finally spotted a sloth bear and its cub !

Driving from Hospete to Daroji i passed through some beautiful sun flower fields.

And Tungabhadra was a majestic sight to behold !

Amazing pictures! Hampi is always a beautiful place to be seen again and again and again!

Architecture is one, but birds! Now thats a first for me for sure! Very nicely captured! A long range prime?

Some from me (only the temples!) taken a couple of years back.

If it's not too much to ask, could you share the camera settings? Especially for shots like the Mongoose close-up, the Agama, Baya Weaver. The Bokeh in each of these shots takes a lot of practice to achieve.

As someone taking tentative steps in photography, this will be a big help.
Thanks Laser. Morning light was good so shots are mostly wide open at f4 or f4.5. This assists subject separation. Distance from the background also helps.

Its pleasant to see these little winged angels and beasts are still sustaining in some corners of the country trying to fight off the onslaught on their habitats. Such a soothing feeling to see the pictures! These pictures can cure an ill person I think.

Thanks a lot for sharing & I hope you journey so much more with your camera in times to come.
Thanks Reinhard. Glad you liked the Pics.

Thanks Observer. The landscape is majestic. Yes, not many tourists at Daroji.

Re: Hampi - Birds, Bears and Beautiful Temples

Lovely photographs.
I am curious about the bears, did they see you? I've heard that mother bears with cubs get extremely aggressive when they come across any other species which can be a threat; in this case, humans.

Thanks ContessMan. Bears are usually very aggressive. At Daroji, you have the watchtower and metal hides to observe and photograph the wildlife.

Re: Hampi - Birds, Bears and Beautiful Temples

Beautiful photologue!
Where did you stay while in Hampi? I am planning a trip in Dec and definitely want to do more than just the temples. Is the JLR close to the bear sanctuary a good place to stay?

Thanks. Ours was a homestay arranged by the guide. JLR is located near the univeraity campus in Kamalapur. Close to the bear sanctuary. I think they have their own safari vehicles.

No photologue of Hampi is complete without capturing the beautiful Temples and surrounding Landscapes. There are more than a thousand surviving remains of the great Vijayanagara Empire. The empire reached its zenith during the reign of Krishnadevaraya (1509-1529).

Few words on the Vijayanagara Empire from Wikipedia.

Hampi is also home to Kishkindha Kingdom of Vali and Sugriva. The Anjaneya Hill Temple is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.

Thanks. These are all native Birds so you can visit all year round. Early morning is the best time to spot birds.
