Did you not sight any hornbills? Dandeli is home to four different varieties of hornbills too. If you happen to have the right local guide (JLR should offer you some help you with connect), they can show you the exact trees and branches where you can sight the hornbills and other birds.

Dandeli has amazing flora and fauna besides great driving circuits!
Thanks abirnale. We did sight the Great and Pied Hornbill. Will post the photos.

Is there a naturalist available at JLR who can help with spotting birds and hence, photography? given how expensive JLR Kabini has gotten over the years, I guess its time to explore the other JLRs in Karnataka... and your guidance would be helpful.
Thanks vsathyap. Yes, JLR Kabini is expensive for what it offers. At OMH, the facilities are basic and not many things to do apart from Birding. There is a resident naturalist who is very good. They also organise local Rafting and other day tours around Dandeli.

Thanks Guna. I had rented Canon 7d mark ii along with Tamron 150-600 G2. My Pentax 300mm will be short for OMH.

Thanks lifeat100k. OMH is good place to stay if you are into Birding. There are other resorts in Dandeli with better facilities if you are planning a family trip.

I guess that's a subject for another thread!!!
Thanks laser2707. Our western ghats region is very special. Its global biodiversity hotspot. From wiki- "It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the eight "hottest hot-spots" of biological diversity in the world." Unfortunately, its under stress due to rapid urbanisation and development.

Also request to post exif data for the pictures posted.

Thanks Nikhil. Shared the cost and equipment details. Most of the shots were wide open at 600mm. The bird activity is at peak late evening when the light is low. Managing ISO is a bit tricky with f6.3 lens.

Did you go around for bird watching with Rajini? Saw her pictures posted with some Australian guests - looking at your location, my guess is that was you and your group 😊

What a brilliant collection! The colours are fabulous ! Happy to see the 7D-II in action! Have been using it for some years now. Wonderful camera ! But yes no birds and wildlife for me. Would rather be happy seeing the experts here!

Thanks ampere. After using Pentax system for 7-8 yrs, 7D II was a revelation. Especially the AF. I picked up a used 7D II last week. Good deals on used gear.

Thanks Goswani.j. Equipment details shared earlier on page 1. I usually rely on local naturalists for identification. They are the best guide.
