Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

Stryker strikes again.. even during (or just after) a lockdown !!! Kabini looks even more tempting with the lush greenery! Reading about your frequent Pilgrimage to Kabini has become a sort of a ritual for me now! Brilliant pics as always! Yes, the cropped tail can be excused as a one off sin

You should not have given away your D7200 (or was it D7100?) That was a fine piece of equipment on its own. Couple that with a 100-400 or a 70-200 fast lens and you could have had the most practical zoom range covered.

Looking forward to your next pilgrimage so that we can continue with the hallowed ritual of going through it and living those wonderful moments captured through your lens!

Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

Super Pictures edited with crisp detailing. However, yet to visit Kabini, but your travelogue guided me to the safari with you. The pictures of the big cat are boundless. At last, I relished your desire to go through the forest and to bless us some superb photos.

Thanks saleem_k. Yes, JLR being a government run enterprise, it was surprisingly efficient in returning the amount for cancelled bookings in the lockdown period. I guess we have to thank Mr. Vijay Sharma, IFS, the MD of JLR in ensuring there were no hitches here. We need more people like him in power.

Yes, people staying at any resort in the Kabini area can pre-book a safari in JLR. They will however get only the bus (or canter as it is called) unless there is an unallocated open jeep available. The chances of this are extremely remote. The resort across the river is called Evolve Back (formerly called Orange County). The naturalist allocation can be requested, but I have found that every single naturalist and driver there is equally good.

Thanks dhanushs. And please do visit, although Red Earth is quite a distance from JLR.

Ah thanks vsathyap. Wondering when you will join me next. And yes, I do now regret selling off my D7200 (wow you have a good memory!) I should have kept it on as a second camera.

Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

Amazing photography, Stryker!
Totally love the Langur mid-air shot, and the Crested Hawk Eagle.

You were really lucky to spot a leopard, they are pretty secretive cats. Having stayed in Powai, Mumbai during my childhood, leopards were a common sight

Your pictures have made me put Kabini #1 on my list of sanctuaries to visit

Some superlative pictures there, to see a tiger wandering in the jungles during the monsoons is one of a kind of experience. The beauty of the lush green forests during the rains manifests into a beauty unparalleled.

Regards.

Thanks amoghk98. As I mentioned before, I love shooting Langurs, they make for such fascinating subjects. Capturing the leap was actually done while waiting for a cat to make an appearance, otherwise generally no one stops for langurs.

Thanks Raghav96. Leopard sleeping on a tree is probably the most common way to see a leopard

Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

Beautiful photos with well narrated description and small story behind each photo. Being a nature lover, liked your affinity for wildlife and such inherent passion for nature. Kabina became much famous now after that viral and splendid heaven like 'Bagheera' photo.
Kabina seems to be full of all such rare natural beauties that can be available in a huge country like India only.
Now I have started getting the itch to visit Kabina and fulfil one of my dream.

Sorry for the mistake. I knew and typed it as Kabini, curse my mobile's auto correction.

Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

Hi,
Awesome pictures.
Where did you stay? I was in Nagarhole in October and got to see elephants when driving through the park during evening. But no big cats.
Regards,
Sid

Re: Kabini - The post lockdown pilgrimage

I have booked serai, kabini during the last week of December.
How's the road towards the resort? Will it be manageable in a loaded Octavia?
