Thanks, HTC! To our surprise, it was not much humid compared to the East coast. We generally ask the locals for places where they frequently go for meals and snacks.
Haha! Heat can really take a toll while riding!

Your trip gives me the motivation to get fitter and do the Mumbai-Goa-Mangalore stretch, once this covid crisis comes to a halt. That should be one amazing coastal trip. Can't wait.
PS: Would appreciate if you could give an insight into your experience of transporting bicycles by air. How you go about it, extra costs, safety, etc. |
Thanks, TROOPER!
Haha, airlines treat bicycles like fragile items and it is carried by a designated person. Also, it does not fit on the conveyor belt that moves the baggage. Carrying on a flight is stress-free compared to a train or bus. If you are still worried you can try a rear derailleur guard available in Decathlon.
One big headache is how you take the cycle to and fro from the airport if you don't have someone with a car with enough space. I never book a flight that reaches Hyderabad in the night as the airport bus will be crowded and the conductor will refuse to accommodate the cycle. Ola/Uber anyway refuse to carry over-sized luggage.
Most airlines charge extra for bicycles and categorize it as Sports Equipment or Special Baggage. It is usually around Rs. 1000-1500.
You need to deflate the tyres, remove the pedals (spanner size 12 or 15, I don't remember exactly), change the gear such that the chain is on the smallest cog in the rear cassette. This makes the derailleur to be at the highest point from the ground. Remove the front wheel and place it on one side of the frame and tie to it using a zip-tie or with a piece of a used tube. Remove the handle using Allen Key and tie it to one side of the fork.
All airlines at Hyderabad airport asked me to get it wrapped in plastic. It costs 500-700 if I remember correctly. I took the bike without any wrapping in other airports at Leh, Delhi, Varanasi, Jaipur etc.

Thanks, samee_arian! We all tend to ignore our neighbourhood!

Thanks, Caadmara! In this trip, we took the bikes to the hotel bathroom and cleaned it with the bum jet on 2 or 3 occasions to remove the grime and sand from the wheels and chain and lubed it every alternate day.
We had to fix a slow leak once in Shiroda. That's it, no other issue!
