Awesome photography and a great write-up to go with it... which lens did u use for these? I own a D50 myself, paired with a 24-120mm VR Nikkor... haven't got many opportunities to use it in India till date... long drives to scenic places is like a dream come true... two of my passions appeased at the same time

Wonderful trip and great pics.
Can you please post your camera details? Did you use any filters?

Really proud of you man for those pictures.
Am humbled and thanks a ton. ECR true has a lot of beauty hidden which needs to be explored. What caught my eyes were the never ending stretches of salt fields.
Infact me and my lady parked the car and had a chat with a few of them on how the salt was made.

I never had any idea that Pondy & its coast had such scenic beauty as portrayed in your photographs
Well all it takes is a stroll along the French part of the town. Some of the places make you feel nostalgic and sometimes wonder why they left ?
Doesn't take long to fall in love with their culture and the way it has been kept here.I travel Pondy @least 5 times a year and have never got bugged of the place.

wimwian, I use a 18-35mm and 70-300mm lens both from Nikkor.

rjstyle, lovely crisp images, what is the price of Nikon D50 and how much did the two lens cost?

Nothing to do with how good or bad a driver we are. We all think of ourselves as the best drivers, don't we ?
Single lane narrow road + no medians + crazy drivers + sharp curves = recipe for trouble. Especially at night.

Not to discourage anyone from using that road. Just to make you aware of what to expect and be careful if you choose to use it. If not, there is always a better alternative available.

I got mine from the US, for about $400... the lens was more expensive, about $500, plus another $80 for a 2GB SD card, so overall about a thousand dollars. Not sure about the prices in India, but my guess is D50 with the kit lens (18-35) is available for 34-35K with B&W. The 70-300mm should be available between 8-12K depending on grey/white and ED/non-ED.

fantastic reports and pics. how did I missed it out

Planning to visit velankanni & yet to decide on mode of transport. Always have a hesitation in doing long trips with family.

Once I went through this travelogue writeen by rj, decided to drive down, but SB fueled the fire of not willing to travel down with family on board.

Yes, SB what u say is right. Drunken driving ratio has to be definitely high on this stretch particularly during weekends along with rash driving. A big no no during nights on this stretch

rjstyle69, awesome photography !!! Having an excellent SLR (digital or otherwise) like the Nikon is just half the story.........knowing how to use it to near-perfection is more difficult and that is where you have scored :-) You should submit the photo of the salt-pan worker at some photo-competition : I am sure it will win top honours.
