JLR - River turn Near Bhadra Dam - LakkaValli

This place was short listed 2 years back itself, although its rainy season we decided check in there!

Called them to check out the reservations and found I can book it online from their website: Jungle Lodges & Resorts Echo Holidays and completed the formalities.

We left Sirsi in the morning and reached River turn for lunch at 1pm via Shimoga. Man its really good place to hang around. Few pictures on the way:

We were served delisious lunch, I am surprised with food quality there. We took rest and took some photos around.

Jungle Safari and boat ride in JLR

Timings are flexible in the evening and morning to choose for Safari and Boat ride, They even take us for trekking to nearby hill in the forest If we want to do that.

Good place Good employees in the resort!

We decided to go for safari in the evening at 4:30PM. We spoted only few animals as usual in any other Safari. Mahindra 4X4 Bolero Jeep is in very good condition (I guess its just 2 years old) so quiet comfortable in Jungle mud roads.

We should learn how to follow lane from these cow GODs.

Dining Hall with Bar attached:

One can walk inside JLR premises:

Inside Hut/Cottage: Very clean and neat!

Onething we should aware is during summer in thsi area it will be very hot so they have AC attached to the rooms. During rainy/winter season few days one might need fan for sure! Because every cottage/hut is covered with wood and grass roof climate inside would be pleasant!

Morning Boating:

After morning tea/milk we went for boat ride in Badra Back Waters. Scenary is amazing with 150feet deep water. During January - May one can spot few animals even during boating because water level will be less, so animals come out of forest to drink water.

You can see KemmanGundi Hills (backmost one) in these 2 picture:

Breakfast was very tasty too:

Rating: Very good place to stay around. Only thing you need to watch out is wild animals/snake/crocodile might enter resort area although they have taken all measures to avoid such problems with good fencing and gaurds monitoring the place 24/7. Wild mosquitos are there even in dining hall, but they have put allout liquidator and mosquito coils. We are happy to see they have taken all precationary measures!

Cost: Around 4500/- per day per Cottage/Hut, twin sharing and complementary for child untill 5 years and driver. Incldues saafri and boat ride.

Water sports available with extra cost which is exciting for Adventure people.

We checked out of the resort at 10:30AM after bath and reached Bangalore by 5PM.

30km road to resort from shimoga and tarikere in mixed condition and national highway (tumkur-shimoga-honnavar) around Terikere is in worst condition with lot of potholes.

Bangalore to river turn JLR resort: 260km

Regards,

Ravi.

Thank you GT and mjothi.

tirthankar we will plan it very soon. Already today while leaving my daughter to school we asked for next holidays ( school people might be feeling bad on me for making my kid bunk the school time to time ). In october we will plan something.

I feel we should plan for Coorg/wayanad/ooty/munnar/K Gudi/Kabini or something similar. May be we can have TBHP family drive and meet to some hill stations.

Regards,

Ravi.

Nice pics n travelogue Ravi.
Here's some pics from my trip to River Tern resort.
It's named after the birds(river tern) which you'll find only on the island.
The elephant bath pic is from Gajanur Dam

Ravi, yes it's a paradise to travel from shimoga to theerthally, the backwaters , river always playing hide n seek in the dense forest road.
Yes I did visit JLR in mid-June. Planning to stay there once again in mid-October.

Nice pictures and trip log Ravi,
this complete thread gives and idea of your taste, Abhi and I can join you folks on that t-bhp family drive if you guys can let us know well ahead of the time..

Once I had Lakkavalli forest rest house booked but could not make the trip due to last moment changes. I would like to go in summer and spend at least more than a couple of days, I have heard a lot about the forest and hoping I get to see tiger during that time

I agree with Lohit and can imagine how much pleasure those roads would give on a bike ride!!
