@Thanks all, for your appreciation.Almost all the pics in this thread have been taken while driving. It is hard to get good shots, given the traffic. Is it just my perception, 'cause i feel Chennai has become a "green" city over the last decade or so?. I guess a whitewash will do the trick.

@nick brilliant thread - quite a bit of effort.
@ SB- i think its a good idea- where we drive around the city - finding new places and discovering new routes!

Chennai sans hoardings is a lot larger, greener - and im sure - consuming a lot less electricty.
the reason that the hoardings were taken down was apparently on the grounds that they distract motorists and they are covering the greenery of the city. If anyone climbs on top of a tall building or even above the 6th floor (which there are very few) - you see a sea of green with a few islands of buildings.

No, the city is very green. Just take a look through google earth & compare that with bangalore, you will know what i am talking about.

To clarify my earlier post. A whitewash for the ugly buildings exposed by the removal of the hoardings , will make the city look a lot nicer, is my opinion. Hope the Corporation acts with determination and forces owners to clean up their property.

Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC).
Just a new name for what once upon a time used to be Pallavan Transport Corp (PTC).

Wow, these pics are real great! They kinda kindle nostalgic memories in me: Chennai was the first metro I had visited as a kid, way back in 1968.
When I went there many times in the 80s and 90s, I felt it had lost its sheen when compared to Bangalore. These pics suggest otherwise.
Kudos to those responsible for this sea change!

It has been a while and time to update my Chennai travelog. More photos from my driving around Chennai scrapbook.I am not labeling the pics on purpose as i want to give other Chennai members an opportunity to interact on this thread and fill in the info for non-Chennai members, and those who have visited or left town to other lands and are curious as to how the city looks now. Most of the pics are taken on weekends as these are the only days i can manage driving and clicking at the same time. Even then, at considerable risk i might add!. Anyways, welcome again to my picture post and i hope you like the pics.

Signs India has got to be the best number plate maker in India. No fancy fonts, no symbols, just a super visible number plate. Most dealers get their plates from here - check out most of the Tatas, the Hondas, Hyundais, the Mitsubishi & the Skoda.

The Amby plate looks like Nachiappa as do some others. I think only ABT Maruti goes to Signs India for their plates.
