Day trip - Bangalore - Mekedatu - Bangalore

It is sunday morning , I was too bored to kill another week end in bangalore. Me and my firend quickly started planning , did some google and found mekedat bit interesting. little we thought that it will be one of the best ride we did in bangalore .

Riders : Myself and friend
Ride : Avenger (me) , splendor (friend) - My Ikon is still resting!
Kms: 180 (round trip)
Time:We started around 12 noon and returned back at 8!
Route: Reach Kanakpura , take left for sangama road .
Road : Till Kanakpura Good , pretty bad after that (adds fun in bike) . Small Ghat section to cross with hair pin bends
Places to see: Mekedat , Chunchi Falls , Fish camp

Rest I will leave it to the pics

Nice pics. Can you please share the route after Kanakapura and road conditions? I mean where do you turn from the Kanakapura - Malavalli stretch to reach mekedatu.

Thanks for the nice comments

akroy: There is a left turn just after kanakpura town (approx 500 mts) , this road goes to cauvery sangam (there is a direction board in the corner by karnataka tourism). take this route and keep going straight (approx 35 kms ) , you will see a left turn for chunchi falls. If you keep going staright you will reach sangama. you can park the vehicle in the restaurant at the entrance (nice food btw).

You need to take the bus to reach the ravine (5kms) , it is available across the river. yes we need to cross the stream! (bus ticket 40rs /head to &fro).Hope that helps..

You have to cross the river via boat and then take the bus.

BTW, the bus itself was sight - it was straight out of Malgudi Days .
I don't know if they are using the same old bus.

diabloo is absolutely right , the bus seems to be straight from malgudi days . The bus service is available from sangam - mekedat (5Kms ) . you can take car till sangam , parking is available in the restaurant at the entrance.

Avenger performed pretty well in bad roads but coughs up when it hits 100 Km , I would love to have little more punch in this bike (any good mechanics in bangalore?) , I haven't calculated mileage in this trip usually it gives me around 40 - 45 km/lit

Browsed through this travelouge yesterday morning and took the road. it was a wonderful drive and good roads too. Thank you all for the directions.

I could not take a decision on the left turn just after Kanakpura road. Kept going straight for 500mtrs and filled petrol (they had very neat restrooms). They gave the directions - So, came back and to the right road.

That junction is very small and the left road doesn't look like a highway - with shops projecting on to the road. But, just after 30 meters, the road becomes wide again.

Throughout, no complaint about the road. Road work is still on at some small streatches. But, overall - fantastic. Newly laid roads.

It was kind of leisurely driving on Wagon R. Did the entire streatch [BLR-Marathahalli Bridge-Haralur Road-Hosur Road-NICE road (toll 15 + 13)-Kanakpura Road-Kanakpura-Sangamam] in 3Hrs onward and return in 2.5Hrs.
Tpotal distance: 106 x 2 = 212Kms

There is a small ghat section (with 3 hair-pin bends) just before Sangama. While driving back, I saw one couple in bike just ahead of me triying to climb one of the hair-pin bends. The guy could not get his bike through. The bike stopped halfway (he tried to climb through the extreme left side of road - mistake!!) and then could not control the bike. The bike came backwards and both fell down on the road!. They got up laughing - looks like they even enjoyed the fall - were lucky to escape without injuries.

Good photos, especially the first one. Mayflowers (gulmohur) lend so much beauty to our summer months!
