superb pics and great captions. Never stayed in calcutta for long but have visited the place several times on my way home and even otherwise. Pics make me nostalgic. No other city makes me feel at home as this one. Unlike other metros it has a great respect for the value of money. One can afford a taxi(amby) in Cal at the price of autos elsewhere. All this combined with great bengali cuisine and the old world charm are the typical characterstic of calcutta. Only painful aspect is the humid weather which is the case with any port city. thanks for bringing back the memories.

You have all my views agree:

Excellent photos. Each city has its own unique characteristics!

i see atleast one Ambi in each of the photos :)
And many many Yellow cabs (can I say that!!!) Ambis. Whats Tata doing in there? No indicas for cab?

Thanks.

There were 200 'Blue Arrow' A/c IndiCabs started in 2003, but did not do good business. Only a handfull are left now. The 'market' was not ready then. Nothing like Hyderabad which now has really cool Innova and Logan Cabs charging INR 600-800 one way to the airport.

you stay at Southern Avenue right? if yes, we can plan for a mini meet @ Vivekananda Park today / tomorrow.

btw, i prefer sticking to South Kolkata :D

Kolkata - A City that laid in a Time-Warp

Tirthankar, Excellent pics and brilliant captions...people can keep on updating this thread with time !!

Abhi

Excellent pictures.
I think once upon a time, very long back, Vadodara had trams.
Anyways, never thought that Kolkata has still greenery left.

1999 Southern Avenue. Brings back lots of memories ! Stayed in a PG accomodation at Keyatala for around 5 years.

Thanks a ton for showing ppl my hometown! That's a brilliant collection of pictures.
Makes me more eager to go back to Kolkata.

This time Puja and Diwali it is!! Kolkata I am coming!!

Cheers
Shrey

Excellent Pictures brother and its nice to see the pictorial description that adds more value to the pic. Great and keep them coming.

First page, excellent photography. But I can see a few things lacking in this otherwise wonderful attempt to showcase a town where I saw my whole life change, yet never realized how until a couple of years back.

For ex., you quoted Science city, but were showing the EMB. Similarly, there are a lot of there places picturesque enough to capture in Bura Bazaar like Tea Market, Mango Market, BBD Bag, Nimtala, Shyambazar, Central Avenue, etc. How could you exclude College Street, Sealdah, Dakhineshwar, Belur Math & Beautiful Belur Bridge, Howrah Bridges (both old and new).

Start exploring the old world scattered all over Kolkata. Don't think about my angry tones. There are no such feelings, just giving you ideas to explore.

Starting with Chandpal Ghat (?) @ In Front of Howrah Station (Old).
