I guess they need to put those boards on every street in Calcutta, except perhaps Salt Lake. I spent 6 months in Cal way back in 1984, and have experience nightmarish traffic jams even in those days.
My my colleagues start cursing the traffic jams in Hyd, I keep telling 'em that I am a seasoned guy owing to my Cal exposure !

Welcome back to team-bhp Tirthankar. The pic quality has really improved in this latest lot. The one about the man taking a nap in a truck while holding a rope is international award quality.

Dhakuria Lake used to be one of my most favourite hang out zones and I quite like the recent changes that are happening there whose pictures you have taken.

@Vnabhi - Have you ever been to Bombay in the last 24 years?

As usual, Tirtha Da, quality stuff from you. Every year I visit Kolkata during the XMas-New Year week 'coz that really is one of the best times to visit Kolkata - nice crisp cold winter, lots of melas, festive atmosphere (Kolkata has a very prominent Anglo presence), ridiculously early sunsets (I love this part..seeing the night fall at 4:45 pm! It's like city wants you to stop all your work, get out and enjoy), onset of Naler gurer sandesh (what a sandesh!) and yes, the onset of that foggy yellow tinge all over the city at night time. That sepia mode of Kolkata night life is very characteristic of "Communist" cities like in Russia and East Europe. And I just love it. Has got that spooky yet very cosy feel to it.

Alas, this year I can't make it to Kolkata during this time. Have some important work and used up all leaves during Pujo.

As we admitted, Tirtha Da, in another thread of yours (or was it this one only?) - you get out of Kolkata and you realise what magical stuff you have left from.

hi basu,
in the post no 72, that light pics are amazing.
i was in kolkata in the first week of nov.
this amazing city is disciplined compared to other metros.
whatever i have seen in kolkata, i had good impression about this city.
amazing and simple people, clean roads, less traffic mess up, few two and three wheelers compared to other metros, not costly.

Surya,

This is one of the best compliments that I have ever received.

Whether this uniqueness gives me peace or not, I keep coming back to post pictures again and again, due to the patronage of all of you.

Another one! Let me tell you: 'You have been very precise in your statement' and it matches my thoughts as well.

Well, Kolkata has improved by leaps and bounds and it was so gradual that we never felt it did. Thats all I can say. I am glad you loved it. But it gets very uncomfortable during summer, mind it.
