I like your "out of office" message
Greens are too good and especially if it rains, wow, awesome.

So, back to work?

You've made my day, Mudmover. A rainy day in Nilambur is what I often dream about, having grown up there. You have captured a lot of feel in your photographs.. wet roads and greenery, the swollen brown river, the blue mountains that form the backdrop around Nilambur.. I long to be there this instant, sipping steaming hot tea at a rural roadside shack watching the incessant downpour.

Thanks pjay! That was a very moving compliment in the sense that I feel amply rewarded for all those hours spent taking photos in the cold and wet weather. My only regret is that I didn't take these pictures during all those days when it was bright and sunny !

Re: Bangalore-Nilambur

I recently travelled from Kerala to Bangalore and took the following route. Update on road conditions

Perinthalmanna-Nilambur-Gudaloor-Bandipur-Mysore-Bangalore [ 340 km ]

Time - 9 hours

Road conditions - Good to Excellent
Bad between Nanjangud to Mysore due to 4 lane work

Takes more than 1 hour from Nilambur to Gudaloor due to Ghat roads.
and 1 hour to cross Mudumalai and Bandipur due to speed breakers

Good part of this route is the scenery, excellent winding roads in Kerala. There are no tolls.

Did you take Melatoor or Pandikaad option from Perinthalmanna? Both seem to be good, but dont know about the current condition.

Planning to drive to Guruvayur via Nilambur. any idea about road conditions from Perinthalmanna to guruvayur? Also looking for home-stay recommendation in Nilambur. found a few online but would prefer something that is off the beaten path.

Not sure of home stays near Nilambur, there is a KTDC motel in Nilambur though it may not be a great choice for a vacation
In case you do not find something good, do take a look at Sinnadorai Bungalow Mango range near Gudalur, have heard good reviews of the place from people who've visited.

EDIT:Or look at options in Masinagudi, bit of detour from your route though

Re: Bangalore-Nilambur

I once did this trip just because I wanted to try this route from Bangalore to Kottayam. Swift + well paved curves in the Nilambur section = BLISS! It was a bit tiring with the traffic, but a good drive worth remembering for a long time.

Re: Bangalore-Nilambur

Hi,

How is the condition of following stretches now?
1) Gundlupet - Gudalur
2) Gudalur - Ooty
3) Gudalur - Nilambur
4) Gudalur - Vythiri/Kalpetta

Between 3 and 4, what are the pros and cons for a Ooty - Kozhikode drive?
Which route has better road conditions now?

What are some good food and toilet break options at Gudalur for a family trip ?
