Bangalore-Nilambur

Every month I go visit my in-laws in a place called Nilambur, on the way to Calicut. Been doing this route for a year now. Since this circuit (a subsection of the Bangalore-Ooty & Bangalore-Calicut routes) has already been written about in detail elsewhere, I'll just stick to a pictoral update of the road conditions as of July 2008. Hope these pics will be enticing enough for members who have not yet come this way!

Pic.1 Bangalore-Mysore NICE road (not the usual route but took it as a detour).

I wanted to take a few more pics but since I was travelling with my wife & baby, I didn't want to prolong the trip unnecessarily . I plan to take some more pics of the area around Nilambur & Gudlur when I go next month.

Amazing pictorial MM, I think your post calls for a separate thread in the Route and Travels Section like the Goa and NH48 threads as people flock this route quite often. Hopefully Mods can do the needful.

I dont think this is the appropriate section or thread for it.

I too was wondering the same. It deserves a seperate thread.

@MudMover, very nice photos. The scenery of Kerala always fascinates me. Never get bored of seeing them.

Can't thank you enough for sharing these pics, Mudmover. I haven't travelled on these roads in the last few years. I didn't know that Nadgani ghat road looked so grand these days. I remember it being in somewhat bad shape about 5 years back.

Bitterly disappointed to see that you don't have photos of Vazhikkadavu-Nilambur stretch, especially of Nilambur (I wonder how Chandakkunnu and Chettiyangadi have changed). Please post more snaps after your visit next month!

Thanks for the pictorial update!

However sad to note that the roads have not improved between Gundlupet and Bandipur. I had heard that the work is happening on this portion, but after seeing the pics, I assume they were just rumours!

Surprised to find the nadugani section in great condition.

By the way, what is it with the speed breaker on the Mysore-Bangalore road? and that too without sufficient markings on the road? Sheesh, a lot of poor drivers must have zipped over them at high speeds!

Bumps lke these on four-lane highways are quite dangerous. But who will listen!

Thats something on the Blr-Mysore highway, the speedbreakers. However, no speedbrakers on the Chennai - blr GQ.
The bandipur road is as bad as how it was a couple of years back.

Nice pics . waiting for your next trip and update.

Are you kidding? Don't you see that incline? How many of us can resist ripping down that stretch with our mean machines if it weren't for that speed breaker?

I guess that's precisely what they want to avoid. It's a good idea but poorly executed as usual. Once I saw an esteem which had 'kissed' an innova on that speed breaker.

I have heard another crazy rumour. It's being said that Karnataka is deliberately leaving the stretch in a state of disrepair so as to dissuade tourists from going towards Kerala.

Nice pictures!
I am amazed by the natural beauty.
Some of the roads look like they are very well maintained. Certainly hard work but its simply amazing.

Excellent thread, MM! Do complete the pictorial update of the rest of the route. May use this route next time I head towards Kerala.

Cheers,
