Pictures indeed tell more than 1000 words. Brought back the memories of the 2006 trip of mine. Is that your petra?. If yes, then WOW!. For me just sitting in the sumo/innova itself was tiring. But one of the days I would like to take my ride through that road, The mother of deadly-indian-roads!.

Nice pics rupinder
Can you put together some word too, starting point, approximate distance time, road condition etc.

I really want to go there, people think i'm nuts to even think of driving all the way from Cochin (down south) to leh and then to Khardung La

Could you advice what is the best time of the year to go there ?
I'd like to see snow, but don't really want to drive in it.

Lovely pictures but as all who have been there would attest no picture can capture the beauty and colors and most definitely not the "SCALE" of things. The Nubra pictures for example do not bring out the immensity of that area...all those who are yet dreaming about it make your dreams come true.....

Great Photos....waiting For Story.

Rupinder,

Lovely pictures, they paint a millon words, now waiting for your story.

A few questions if I may:

1. Did you carry fuel, where all did you fuel up after Rothang?
2. Did you cover Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri and Tso car in one stretch? Your day wise account
would be very useful, specially how you palnned the fuel.
3. How were the sections after Sarchu and the roads to Pangong Tso, the Changla section
and Tso Moriri roads?

Thanks in advance,

--Ramky

I've seen plenty of pictures of manali-leh, and I thought, whats the big deal? some rocks, desert , mountains and sky. there's nothing attractive there.

I am wrong!
Time to start planning

doesnt matter much if you dont feel like writing a proper travelogue. just keep those pics coming.

I like the idea of a convoy from the south.

Excellent pictures, Rupinder. At first I thought that they have started boating on the Pangong Tso. Did you see the small make-shift shiva temple at one end of the lake?

How did the Petra behave at that altitiude. And how come the Qualis have that accident, with so few vehicles on the road?

I guess some of those are the Brahmini ducks at the Pangong. It reminded me of my Ladakh trip in 2001. I travelled in a Sumo and drove most part of it, while the designated driver enjoyed the ride beside me. The Pangong could have been a nice backdrop for some pics of the Petra.

Dont want to hijack the thread, but here is 1 picture from my last trip.

leh photo tripolog 2008-pangongbrahmani-large.jpg

Again, very nice pictures, Rupinder.
