Nelliyampathy hasnt seen commercialization yet. If you have some local contacts and can stay in the estates it can be rewarding.

Bison territory... we woke one early morning before sunrise to what sounded like a freight train but it was only a couple of bison thundering past.

Hi Foby,

Your travelogue sounds interesting and the snaps very tempting and I am very keen in making a trip there. However I need a few clarifications and if I may summarize:

1. There are 2 ways of going to Nelliyampathy: One the normal way and the other for men who have hair on their chest!!
2. For the latter we need to contact a certain Mr. Ivan - could you share his contact details? It would be disappointing to go there and not find him.
3. For INR 3.5k, he would organise a trip 60k through the jungle on his own vehicle with all permits? - Can we take our 4x4 here along with Mr. Ivan and his 4x4? If we park our vehicle at Mr. Ivan's place, it would be assumed that we would need to come back. Would that be covered in the INR 3.5k or would that be an extra charge?
4. From Nelliyampathy we can also go to Pothundy through deep forest but no permission is required. I assume here that we can take our own 4x4? This trip is again for men who have hair on their chest!!
5. There is a place to stay in Pottundy only for the folks having the above trademark. Can you share the contact details of the same?

Thanks and regards

it was one of my friend who arranged the trip with Mr. ivan i dont have his number with me rite now, i will post it in the near future ASAP

if you are travelling with ivan we cannot take our vehicle with us ,because only vehicles with permits are allowed, as we see in forest roads the way will be locked, the forest person who accompany us will be having the keys to un lock.

it would be assumed that we would need to come back. Would that be covered in the INR 3.5k or would that be an extra charge?

ans. am not sure about the rate of Mr. Ivan

from nelliyam pathy we can take our vehicle...that to as you told for men with haors on their chest

as shown in the photo there is a small place to stay or take rest,

and i will post that guys number ASAP.

Alright, that estate looks like a perfect getaway for our RE group riders. Can you help me get the contact details of the estate owner?
Do we need any permits from the forest dept to get to that Estate and come back?
are we going to take the same route to the estate that you have shared in you pictures above? If yes, can you share the complete route (later part especially) and proper directions?
It would be great if You can get us the coordinates to that estate / Ivan's place (would be handy in case all of us get lost (he he ,, asking lil too much)..

Dwarak Sir,
I'm sure you tempted to go with your JeepThrills team, but Can we add this to our next ride plan? that will help you find out good offroading trails..

a trip to malakka para thrugh the forest route in athirapilly.

a trip to malakka para thrugh the forest route in athirapilly.

after sholayar pen stock there is a blue lagoon near by road its like the lap of some hills in which the animals will come there to drink water in summer, and it was a summer which we went for the endaveour.

It was a quite easy drive in the forest but suddenly in a cure we saw the unexpected, a big brown tusker alone.

we were three in the car , got panic because we all started our jounery by saying to our moms that "we will be rite back in the evening"

one of us was driving the car he suddenly started reversing the car , euexpectedly his hand sturk on horn which drawed the attention of elephant.

by the way we started reversing and elephant following us , we dont know what the heck to do , when we think it about know we will laugh our *** off

we managed to escape from the front of elephant , after 2 hours we went there again I am including the snaps after that , the elephant crossed the lagoon (check out the colour of elephant now) and joined an other group.

it was six years befor we took it in a local mecanical camera , by the time some visitors were there. we managed to get we three in the same frame.

Indeed a wonderful place. Can you guide me how to get there from Mumbai. Which is the closest big city etc. I definitely want to make this journey and will make it part of my South India trip plan.
Thanks for sharing this travelogue.
