In the last three snaps it all looks so barren and dry, its hard to imagine that it was the rains that caused all the havoc you have so aptly described.

@prabhu, it was not the rains, rathert eh lack of them that caused it. There is hardly any rain in those parts. Its a cold desert and the annual precipitation is measured in the inches of snow rather than the mm of rainfall.

Brilliant narration! Great pictures too, but I guess there was no need for pictures at all. Your writing conveyed everything. I really admire your attention to details when writing. Keep many of these coming.

What an amazing write-up! - your attention to details and the flow of the language has kept us on the edge of our seats. Wilbur Smith couldn't have done better.

Picture details:
1. Malling Nullah at its top.
2. View of Nako Village from a nearby hilltop.
3. Helipad at Nako.
4. Nako lake & Village.
5. The great Himalayan National Park, Home to IBEX.
6. The 1010 year old Monastry at Nako. They say it was made in one single night over a bet with between a Lama and a local demon?? or another entity?? (not sure need to check back once again).

Thanks for that info wandernomad. That is knowledge added. I always thought all these landslides were caused by sudden rainfall in deforested areas. I stand corrected.

The basic reason for these landslides is the dry soil. With a wind the soil particles tend to blow away as they cannot adhere themselves to the rocks dus to lack of moisture. Continous erosion and loss of soil to wind causes deep gullies or chasms near to the base of rocks which then tend to topple due to their own weight.
Lesson ends for soil erosion and its effect on rock mobility. Lol.
Next set of pictures to come up today.
