Well, i have tried the route u just mentioned, and have also done Kundapur thru Mangalore, thru mudigere, karkala ... ad others.
So, its more of travelling on a diff route everytime, more than taking the "Correct" route
Wrt the Expenses incurred for my Ford Fiesta:
Total Expense of damage --> 62,000 Rs
Total Incurred by Self --> 21000 Rs
Remaning amount --> Insurance company

Basically , the front section of the car is mostly plastic/fibre, which means a 50% insurance only, incase of replacement.
Head lamps cost 6500 Rs a piece!

Bumper is fibre too, the grill, fog lamp holders, the radiator fan assembly, are all plastic/fibre.
