Weekend trip to Srirengapatna, Lalitha Mahal Palace, Mysore.

September 27th 2008 - Saturday 2pm.
We were planing to do this trip as a one day trip on Saturday. But since my son had Parents teachers meeting at 1pm, we could not make it for whole of saturday. So, we split the trip to 2 and made to Nandi hills in morning and then started to Mysore after the PTM was done.

We started @ 2PM from Brook field. I took the Airport road, Richmond road, Corporation circle and Elevated Mysore road route. The traffic was really bad and I could reach the Rajarajeswari Nagar junction by 3:40pm only.

From then on, it was a plesant drive as usual. Since almost everyone covered this route, there is nothing new I am going to cover here.

Our plan was to see the Mysore Palace I full lights in the night. We stopped in Mandya for a coffee break. We reached Srirengapatna around 6pm. So, we thought we still have time for Palace lights to be siwtched on and hence decided to visit the temple.

Entering Srirengapatna

Had a good dharsan and in next 30 minutes we were out heading towards Mysore.

Contd...

Hah, another trip in the weekend. Good one mjothi.

Bring the huge set of pics soon. I badly want to see an illuminated palace pic. Last saw the lighted palace way back in 2003.

Oh no. I think I will be disappointing you :(
I was equally disappointed when I went there. They said that the lights will be put on ONLY on sundays.

Btw, this reminds me something. Why dont we go for a Photo Shoot to this Palace on one Sunday night? Will be a real pleasure to do so. Lets plan for one in coming months.

We reached Mysore around 6:45pm and took the road inside city to Palace. The signs are little difficult to understand especially in the circles. The signs said Right turn for palace, and when I took the right, it was actually taking me back to bus stand. Then I figured out that the way is a one way and so, we need to take the other right. Finally we made one or 2 circles and reached palace by 7pm. We saw not much things happening there and checked with guys over there. Then came the answer as a big shock. The reply was no lights on Saturday, it is only one Sunday. So, all our dreams went down.

Then took some snaps in night of the palace and headed to get some room for the stay. We got a guide/broker(?) ho arranges hotels for visitors. He did do a pretty good job. He arranged a decent hotel for us in Chitirakala Residency(I think i lost the name). Its straight on the palace road.

We had dinner near there and hit the bed around 10pm.

The next day we started to Chamundiswari Temple around 8am. We were able to reach the hill in 1 hour. Not much of crowd and so we were back after dharsan outside temple by 9:30am.
On the way

Bull Temple

From the Ariel view point, we took the left to go towards the BULL temple. We went and had good time. Some snaps

Then while coming down from there, I got confused with the route. Luckily I stoped in the T-junction and checked an oncoming SUMO. The driver said, that road goes to Ooty/Nanjungud and asked to take exactly opposite direction to go to Palace.

Then one the way, I saw teh board for Lalitha Mahal palace. Every time I visit Mysore, I always wanted to visit here, but never happened. So, now I took that route to get in there.

I was stopped by the security and said no visitors allowed. Ok, we are nto visitors and said we are going to the restaurent in there. So he allowed.

Once I went in, I checked with the guys there and he said a good plan. If you buy ticket for the chariot ride (It will take you 3 rounds in front of the palace), you can enter the Palace and have a look in the ground floors.

And per head he charged Rs50. Well, that was a decent deal and hence went with it.

We went in, had a look at the shops, got some perfumes and stuffs.

I then realize that my battery is out. I forgot to charge it the previous night. i request the staff to help me in charging and he said ok. But again, my charger is from Japan and hence that has only the 2 flat pins. Luckily, his mobile charger also had same pins and he had the convertor.

So put the camera in charge and went for the horse ride. After sometime, I took the battery and started to click again.

And here is the pics

Mysore Palace

Once we are done with the Lalith Mahal Palace, we went back to the Palace. I am sure most of the guys would have visited several times here. This time I did not go to the Museum behind the palace. just went in, saw the amazing interiors, and back.

Some snaps from around palace

On my way back I filled petrol in the Bunk and I saw this Sparking black cute chetak

I started wondering if it was relaunched again. No I checked with the guy and he said its old one. Man, its really well maintained

One more thing I noticed on the way back to Bangalore is the buses. Most of the buses have their left side bottom doors open and everytime he turns it opens and comes out. its really dangerous. imagine a 2 wheeler going next to bus and if that opens, then for sure the 2 wheeler guy will hit that door and fall down.

So, guys be careful with these buses.

Mileage i got for this time is 12.5kmpl. This includes 7lts of Shell premium + 1 lt of road side petrol

Thanks guys. The entire trip was good except for the last stretch. I thought of taking the outer ring road from Mysore road. So, I took the Uttarahallai(?), Subramaniyapuram road etc. but unfortunately they said they closed the outer ring road that goes to jaydev hospital from Subramaniapuram due to some under ground work.
Thats all, i was taking the whole of Banshankari asking direction in every junction. Finally after a great difficulty I reached the jaydev bridge.
Certainly not for me since I know no route on that side. Need to get familiar around that place. Hmm.
