The third picture shows the gear lock i.e. a lever that when engaged (you have to push it in the hole next to it and lock it) would prevent your gear lever from being moved from that gear and the car/gear lever will not move till that is removed.

Hi guys,

I finally got a few moments to type out very briefly about the trip.

Some background – this was my honeymoon. Beat that! I had not been to Goa since 1984-85 and had heard about its progress all these years. I knew I had to go there sometime but did not realize I’d be taking the step so soon. I got married on the 29th of December.

The Car – The Suzuki Swift VXi. I have not touched it much externally except for the alloys. It’s fitted with an end can from autopsyche that I had installed sometime during 2007. On the 2nd of Jan I went to Hyperformance motorsports and got the after market BMC Conical filter installed. I am extremely happy with the response and the end result. This was a great help while overtaking on the expressway whenever needed.

Day One Cold 3rd Jan morning - We were supposed to leave at 5am but the fog was thick. All I could do was wait it out. There were no early signs of the fog clearing out that morning so we finally made up our mind to leave the house and brave it out. I had driven in fog before and in the hills – how difficult could this have been. We finally managed to get out of house at 9am. I took NH8. The highway traffic was slow. The fog remained the same well after Manesar. Our goal was to reach Udaipur by night ( I believe it was close to 750kms). I remember a few years ago and while I was studying in Ajmer, my father used to drive up to meet me. It used to take him close to 7 hours. I have done the jouney to Ajmer many times through the years and managed 6 hours with a stoppage or two. But this time I did it in 4 and half hours which included a 20 min break at Behror. I am sure some of you have probably done it faster, but this was impressive for me. . The roads were excellent from Delhi to Ajmer. Delhi-Jaipur being a 4 lane (2 for each side) and Jaipur-Ajmer a 6 lane for most of it (3 for each side). We made it to Ajmer by lunch and after a good meal set out at around 4pm for Udiapur. Again excellent roads. The Golden Quad had not disappointed one bit so far. We finally made it to Udiapur by 9pm and settled for the night at the RTDC Hotel there. A comfortable stay overall.

Day two 4th Jan – We managed to drag ourselves out of bed at 9am and were finally able to leave Udiapur by 11am. Our goal Mumbai by nightfall. The road from Udaipur to Ahemdabad was superb. Ahemdabad to Vadodara was even better with the National Expressway 1 (NE1). This was an approx 130km straight with no exits and no U turns at all. Simply awesome. I also did manage a 150 or more on this straight. The road from Vadodara to Surat was ok but entering into Surat was a nightmare. This place was full of trucks and the expressway is still under construction. The worst 150km of the whole trip. As soon as we left Surat the roads did get better but unfortunately this had taken too much of daylight. This slowed us down and our goal to reach Mumbai had to end early. I somehow managed to reach Daman which is on the coast. It’s a 14km right from the main expressway into a town called Ujwada. Again a comfortable stay at a great resort on the beach.

To be continued…………..
