That sounds like it was totally snowed up! Read it again pragmatically.

That's being selectively hopeful towards Kufri

Jalori was snowed out - went upto 2km of it, then trekked the 6-7km to Serolsar.

Roads were open on Khanag side (ZERO SNOW) but Kufri was still 135km away to visit, and the car was on the wrong side!

But importantly, skid plates this month!

Too busy, pics later tonight.

@Akshay - Yes it did. Not bottomed out. But when there's no road, and you're driving a baby elephant, some stones would scrape the underbody here and there, despite best attempts (more of roll off tyre and bounce).

@Suman - How can I disobey. Here we go.
Enroute:

An abandoned village enroute that indicated that the lake was near:

Another view:

More of the peculiar way of construction.

Outside the dhaba just before the lake:

The temple at the lake:

More of the route on the way back:

That's the only board for the pass:

Trying to click long-exposure pics of waterbodies. But tsk can't be replicated!!

Phamilyman, where did you stay? Did you have heat in your room? The lack of heat and heaters is a factor in the low divorce rate up here. It has been a mild winter so far so there has been some bickering. The winter sky up here is subtle and wondrous and the mountain air.....I think it should be bottled here and sold in Delhi.

After coming over the US and getting used to the heaters, I cannot imagine how these people survive without heaters in such climate. And going by your logic, there should be lotsa gays around too.

@Rupinder: Thanks boss.

@DirtyDan: No no. Our "resort" was a proper nice place with all creature comforts. But yes, good business model. If I also lose my job in this recession, I just might take you up on it

@kuttapan: That is okay. Most have heaters - electricity is almost free in such tribal areas. What is more incredible is that people walk on some of that snow - and the speed they manage in regular chappals/cheap shoes is more than what we managed with hiking/military boots with lots of slipping

phamilyman : PS: The car made such a bloooooody racket on the way home its not funny. Any guaranteed but affordable rattle-kill solutions?
iraghava : Yup. Permanently remove all the interior pieces that rattle. Naa rahega Baans, naa bajegi Bansuri.
benbsb29 : Phamilyman, are you sure you heard rattles from the car, or your own chattering self?

This would improve the pickup and FE also.
.. Or may be chattering companions ! @Phamilyman, that was the best solution you could have got ! Hope it worked ..

From mid morning if there is sun, it is still strong up here and it heats things up. But when it's overcast or just past sundown...kiss and make up, he, she or favorite species.

Actually winter up here is my favorite time. Electricity from hydro-electric projects is relatively cheap and I have sizeable heaters and a LPG backup. I am about to build quarters with a fireplace as well.

The weather here can be freaky but there are forecasts on the web. You may get lucky and see something like this little valley outside Palampur.
