@abhi, the last time I took route 1, which was over a year ago, the road between Chikmagalur and Birur was terrible. Don't know if the road has been repaired. It's only for that single reason that I would stick with route 2.

One of my friend went to Kemmanagundi through that route a few months back. He told it was not smooth but not horrible either. Dont know about the present condition though.
But doing this you can cover the entire Chikamagalur range.

Hi,

I am not sure if thread already exists on this !!

I am planning to travel from Bangalore to Chikmagalur this weekend. The intention is to be away from Bangalore for 2 days, maybe leave Bangalore on Friday afternoon and be back by Sunday evening. Any suggestions on route and place to visit and stay is most welcome.

Great for bringing up this one. I have been thinking of doing this for a long time

There are 2 routes to Chikmagalur:
Route1: Bangalore - Tumkur - Arsikere - Kadur - Birur - Lingadahalli - Chikamagalur (you will cover Kemmanagundi)

Route2: Bangalore - Neelamangala - Kunigal - Chennarayanpatna - Hassan - Belur - Chikamagalur (Original route)

You can try out both the route, one for going and one in the return.

Search for homestays / hotels in Chikamagalur.

Abhi

Abhi, any contacts etc of homestays if you have gone there?
Thanks
Pavan

you can ref my name.

Some pix from my weekend trip to Chikmagalur. The route I took was Bangalore - Neelamangala - Hassan - Belur - Chikmagalur. My odo showed a total of 260 kms one way.

Good pics
How was the route and which placed you stayed. Any contact numbers

I stayed in a place called WoodWay, its about 15 kms from Chikmagalur. Try checking on this URL - Wood Way Estate, Chikmagalur - Address, Phone Number, Website, Price - Book Wood Way Estate

The cost is pretty steep - Rs.2000 per person per day (this includes stay and food), but the facility is good for the price you pay. Its run by a family, so you will have a homely touch for the facility you get. Worth trying :)

2000 + taxes?
And it includes 3 meals or only breakfast, dinner or some combo like that?
And ya, condition of the roads?

Hi Bijayks, Nice pics !! Which is the location of that roads in the first 3 pics? Is that chickmagalur Kgundi route? Really scenic and challenging !!! Is that the house picture you stayed? Thanks, Venu.

MapmyIndia.com Online maps, GPS Navigation, Driving Directions, Local Search shows a major road (thick line) from Chikmagalur upto Tarikere. Is this the normal route to kemmenagundi? On this road, at Lingadahalli, we need to take a left, right? can someone mention the importants points en-route? Unfortunately, kgundi is not marked in this, otherwise comprehensive website.

Bijayks, Nice pics. It would be nice if you caption the pics. It provides a great view of the place with caption on the pics.

Abhi

Rs2000 is all inclusive and this includes stay and food all thru the day!! (breakfast, lunch, snacks & dinner)

The 1st three pix are of the road leading to Mulliyanagiri - the highest peak in Karnataka, while the last pix are of the road from Chikmagalur to Neelamangala.

I will try captioning the pix maybe next time!!

Avoid the Tarikere stretch, Instead take
BLR-Hassan-Chikmagalur-Lingadahally(tturn towards your left)-Kemmangundi
The road is really good all the way from Bangalore till lingadahally

In fact, my doubt is only chikmagalur <---> kGundi . I can see there are more than one option from CKM to kgundi. can you tell me the exact route mentioning someplaces in b/w? Also, I need to visit mulayangiri, bbgiri, dattatreya peetha in between. Do these fall on the route? Where do we have to turn off, otherwise?
My trip, I will do like this: BLR-Tumkur-Tiptur-Kadur-Birur-Lingadahalli-kgundi-CKM-Belur-Hassan-CRpatna-Nelamangala-BLR. Many thanks, VV
