Mumbai (Thane) - Ganpatipule - Ganeshgule
Hi All,
Since last one year my family was planning a trip to Ganpatipule, but the trip could not materialize due to work schedule of individual persons. Finally we could figure out a weekend when we could put our plan into action. We made it to Ganpatipule(GP) on 27th March. We were 4 adults, myself, sister and mom/dad. Since I had morning shift on friday, we planned to leave to GP that afternoon itself.
Car: Hyundai i10 MH04-DJ-5852 Day 1: 27th March
Finally we hit the roads at 3.30pm and finally made it to GP by 11.45pm. It was very adventurous trip since most of the roads being ghat section and we had to cover maximum distance in dark. The route we took is as follows:
Thane 0
Panvel 35 Take NH17, Goa Highway, Turn Right
Pen 32
Vadagal Phata 5 Turn Left, straight goes to Alibag
Pali 26
Indapur 26
Managaon 10
Mahad BP 25
Pholadpur 24 Ghats begin
Khed 36
Chiplun 33
Sangameshwar 47
Nivali 25 Turn right, actually its almost a 'U' turn Off NH17, 5 kms before Hathkamba
Chafe 21 Turn left
Ganapatipule 12
The above route was suggested by hvkumar. His guidance and inspirations were deciding factor for success of this trip. BIG THANKS to him and this great forum.
The roads consist almost Ghat section after Poladpur with lots of twist and turn. But the traffic was thin so i enjoyed the drive and could maintain good speed.
We checked into Hotel Shree Sagar at 12 AM. Since we planned the trip at last moment, we could get accomodation only at this place and I was happy when I heard from them that the rooms are available. But the happiness turned into frustration when we saw their room. I m not able to point single thing, but over all the room was not the worth the money we paid (Rs.1650 A/c for 4 person). Please avoid this place. We hit the sack by 12.30 in night and kept alarm for 6 in morning.
Day 2: 28th March
As planned we we woke up by 6.30 and hit the beach by 7am. We had a ball of a time on the beach and returned to room by 9am. We took bath and in the meanwhile, my dad could manage to get a better room at low price. So we shifted to Atithi lodge at 10am. We had breakfast at restaurant attached to Hotel Durvankur. Food was really good, try Onion bhaji and batata vada. We then took blessing of Ganpati and then we set out to Pawas (Swami Swaroopanand Math) and Ganeshgule beach. My office colleague told me to take the coastal route to Pawas via Ratnagiri. The experience on that road was splendid and awesome since it had the Arabian sea running parallel most of the time. The view was inexplicable!!! From GP we took a right at Nivare Phata which is around 6Km from GP. Then we took the aare-vare marg to Ratnagiri. We also had a brief stop at aare vare beach which is also spectacular, but I think it doesnt have many tourist like GP. Ratnagiri is around 15-20Km from GP when you go via coastal route. Enroute Ratnagiri, you see a bridge where on the left side a creek enters into Sea on right side, the view is simply invaluable and awesome. From Ratnagiri to Pawas was around 10-15Km. We visited the ahsram and then started to Ganeshgule beach which is around 7 Km from Pawas. My office colleague sugested this beach to me, he said that, on one fine day during high tide this beach is comparable with Pattaya and langkawi beaches, unfortunately I could not reach there during high tide!!! The beach is simply beautiful, pristine and untouched. Its almost no mans land, no tourist on the beach. We had to go to the beach via a small village. We reached GP using the same beautiful route and reached by 5Pm to watch the sunset. BUT, unfortunately the sunset experience was stealed away by dark clouds!!! We were very sad to miss the sunset. We had dinner at the same place where we had breakfast. They had only Maharashtrian Thali for dinner. Food was good if you like maharashtrain food, else Tarang restaurant in MTDC is good.
Day 3: 29th March
We again got up by 7pm and checked out by 9pm and were ready to drive back home. We wanted to take a tour of MTDC resort, so we went there for breakfast. Food was really good at Tarang restaurant. After visiting the resort i understood why people are crazy about MTDC resort. The view and proximity to beach are the key. We then bid adieu to this beautiful place at 9.45Am with heavy heart and set out on our return journey. We reached Thane by 6PM in evening including 1.5 Hour breaks in between for tea, food and fuel. We had food at Vitthal Kamat near Mahad. Food was very good but costly.
