Great going guys. Just bumped into this thread and was amazed to know the level details available. It was as if I was driving with the updates from akroy. Sorry to hear about the mishaps, but it was quiet heartening to know you all came through and completed the drive.

Take care and I am sure this will help and inspire a hell lot of people to explore India by road.

Would be really helpful, if someone well versed with this particular spot put out the details...ex- exactly after 12 kms from spot A...you reach a temple on your left hand side..4 th km you reach this deadly turn

From the GJ-RJ border at Ratanpur, towards Udaipur, it is ghat roads almost all the way till Udaipur, so there are many possible accident spots. The roads are superb and it is possible to go at high speeds, a mistake many make. Trucks are slow-moving up the ghats and often block all lanes. So it is not just one deadly turn but it could be anywhere. When you are coming down the ghats, the roads are broad and well-banked too, but the better the do, the more the obsession with speeds!

Thanks HVK. What is the distance between these places? Google maps shows it as 300 kms

How long it takes to cover the distances between these two places under normal driving?

The ghat section between Ratanpur & Udaipur bypass is around 120 kms, which can be done comfortably in around 2 hours. You may also like to halt in between to refuel because RJ is cheaper than GJ.

HV Kumar has explained clearly,
Sorry unable to elaborate more on this as I'm travelling with limited interent access(BSNL 3G datacard does'nt work while roaming in small towns), busy with Andhra by-elections organising bulk temple poojas for a lot of candidates.
will give detailed info once I'm back home in Bangalore

Coming back to the thread after long. The spot is marked by pointer A in the map below, if my memory does not fail me. It was just 2 kms before the Bichhiwara Police Station.

http://goo.gl/maps/8eRNM

However, as HVK explained, caution should be exercised for the entire section, as the road surface is too inviting.
