Dear SS,

Please recheck this route.

I think it has become operational.

What is the current status of the uniformed extortionists in UP and specially on the Kanpur flyover?

I hope under the new holy dispensation this menace has been curbed.

Many thanks my friend,

The perils of the journey are what make it interesting, and we BHPians are not deterred by them. Far from it, we are inspired even more.

Hey,
Sorry for late reply, got really caught up with work. I did travel from Patna to Gurgaon and here are the details.
1.Started at 1 am from Patna and reached Sasaram G T road in 3.5hrs.
2.From Sasaram till Varanasi is a nightmare with atleast 15 diversions.
3.Road becomes good after crossing Varanasi and excellent once you reach Allahabad bypass and same continues till Etawah.
4.From Etawah till Agra is still slow, narrow road and traffic.
5. Nothing to write anything about Yamuna Expressway.
Total time to reach my home Gurgaon was 17hrs including 1 food/ bio break and 1 diesel stop but it was all worth it.
Hi Animesh, which road did you take between Patna and Sasaram? What is its condition?

I took Patna-Ara-Sasaram road. Road is in good condition. It took me about 3-3.5 hours as I started at 1 am.

There are not less than 20 diversions after Varanasi towards Sasaram. Not one of them looks like nearing completion.

Hi,

Here is a better route from NH-19 to Patna.

This avoids Ara town and Koilwar bridge. Near Patna be sure to choose the correct route to avoid narrow roads and bazaar.

For people going from Delhi to north bank of Ganges in Bihar (places like Chapra, Hajipur, Mujaffarpur) Lucknow- Ghorakhpur- Gopalgunj route is the best.

Re: Delhi-Kolkata by Road | NH2 (now called NH19) in full detail

I have plans to drive/accompany my friend for a drive to Varanasi sometimes in mid August. I have been hearing of bad road conditions on NH-2 near Aurangabad [construction, diversion etc] Any leads?

Thanks

Re: Delhi-Kolkata by Road | NH2 (now called NH19) in full detail

Planning a trip to Betla forest and Netarhat from Kolkata and back, in August. The possible route itinerary is as follows:
1) Kolkata-NH19 (formerly NH2)- Aurangabad-NH 139 (formerly NH 98)- Daltonganj-Betla
2) Betla-Netarhat via Mahuadanr
3) Netarhat-Lohardaga-Ranchi-Kolkata

Please give your input on the current road situation in the above route.
Thanks,

PS. I have also posted the same message in the "Mega roads update' thread. If it violates the forum policy, moderator may please delete this post.

I see that Jharkhand Tourism has tours to Netarhat and Betla (but not to Palamu). But still do enquire. Don't know about conditions now, but even 15-20 years when I used to go quite frequently to Renukoot, Betla/ Palamu were essentially out of bounds.

I would suggest Purulia - Ranchi - Netarhat ... as the route, but do enquire from the touring stalwarts like Black Pearl, //M, Saket, Rahul4640, Samba and others. Last time (2 yrs back), Purulia - Ranchi was a surprisingly good road. And always been scenic. (Though the train journey Muri to Ranchi is even better).

If you have time, throw in Ayodha hills, and Patratu road.

Regards
Sutripta

PS. I don't know about Bihar/ Jharkhand forest times, but entry to most forests is stopped during monsoons.

Excellent. I am sure this can be accommodated in the drive if while coming from Netarhat, from Lohardaga, we go to Patratu and then come to Purulia. From there, it should not be a big deal to connect to NH19 via Bankura and Beliator. This way, we avoid Ranchi and Baharagora altogether.

What do you say??

If you are avoiding Ranchi by using the road from Ramgarh, then be advised that that road is scenically challenged. Not a pleasant drive either.

Hello Guys, need your advice…

Very soon I will be embarking on this epic journey from Kolkata to Delhi NCR by road (and regular reader of this encyclopedia created by SS Da).

Self will be driving, accompanied by a non-driving friend, with a stopover at Varanasi. Since Varanasi city is very crowded, I have selected Hotel Grapevine, which on the eastern side of river Ganges in Ramnagar area (location attached).

Appreciate your feedback (specially SS Da), if you can high light traffic condition around Ramnagar area or if any good hotel available just off the highway. I want to avoid Mughal Sarai route.

Cheers

The least traffic density (during summer) in Varanasi (and its surrounding areas) is during the afternoon hours - say, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Try to time your departure from Kolkata to reach around that time.

I have been suggested Hotel Kaushik (contact Yogesh 9452631237) by a fellow Bhpian. He mentioned this hotel is located on the highway and there is no need to enter Varanasi City. Hope this helps.
