This trip is something unique. We had gone to Saharanpur on official work. We left Bangalroe on 17/05 to Delhi. Man the Capital city was soo hot. It was 42 deg. On next day 18/05, from Delhi to Saharanpur, we took Shatabdi on in morning. Reached Saharanpur around 9.50 am. Checked into the hotel (Royal Residency)and switched on the tv and lo, I had the surprise. The sensex was zooming an the trading had stopped as it has touched the upper circuit. Just saw my portfolio and was very happy that atleast the negatives in my portfolio was looking positive atleast in some of the shares. Decided to wait and watch for a couple of days and then take a decision on selling the shares. But unfortunately, the sensex started to come down again from next to next day onwards. So, i'am holding all the shares as of now.
After all we have come so far and wanted to visit some places in and around Saharanpur. The places in and around saharanpur we planned are Haridwar (a dip in holy ganga), Rishikesh (longest hanging briege), Dehradun, Mussoorie (a hill with 7000 ft above MSL). It is just a 1 1/2 hrs drive. We thought of finishing our work asap and travel to these places. There is a proverb in kannada called
"swami karya nu maadu & swa karya nu maadeko". This applies here perfectly. This is the main advantage if you are in Supply Chain (Purchasing). You can complete the official work and then, if time allows, you can roam around that city or visit to near by cities. So, the places we planned to visit were Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Mussoorie. As planned we finished our work on 21/05 and planned to start to haridwar and rishikesh on 22/02 complete the sight seeing and then move over to Dehradun (night stay for 22nd) and Mussoorie on 23/05, complete the sight seeing and then return back to Saharanpur and from Saharanpur move back to Delhi as we had a flight back to Bangalore on 24/05 morning.
Next, we needed a car for travelling and was about to book the taxi but our host offered to spare one of his car (he has around 4 cars) for our travel with driver. :) The driver was a native of this place and knew about the routes by back of his mind about the places we had planned to visit. We made a condition that the all the expenses including the petrol will be borne by us. Now, one of the biggest headache of travelling was solved. Now, enough of me blaberring...
So, here is the route taken by us: (both to and fro)
Saharanpur-Bhawanpur-Roorkee-Bahdarabad-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Haridwar-Dehradun-Mussoorie-Dehradun-Chutmalpur-Gagalhari-Saharanpur.
The statistics for this trip will be shared in the end of this travelogue.
Now some pics of this trip.
This is how it looks from 32,000 ft from ground. Above the clouds. Our 1st destination: This is common sight in UP. But this vehicle is sumo.. Filling gas to our vehicle while the driver looks on.. Condition of roads near Bhawanpur-Roorkee stretch
Coming up roads to haridwar and haridwar itself...
nice start. waiting for next episodes.
aah so many guys going to dehradun.I am getting homesick.
Waiting for the next part of the report sn.
Srini, so you completed Uttaranchal trip in no time.
It just took me to our Dehradun, Mussorie trip (Official College Camp rather) way back in 1999.
Eager to see those places again.
Abhi
The name Dehradun brings bank my meories of several trips to Defense electronics application lab at dehradun way back in 1996-98. I always made it a point to travel from Delhi by Shatabi and return via bus from Dehradun. the Road is very scenic
i am keen to see the photographs and dear details, please bring them on fast.
One of the bridge on way to haridwar: Map of Haridwar (places of interest) in this temple town. The river Ganga and its sorroundings in Haridwar. The lodges and houses are at the banks of river. A mighty river flowing at their backyard. You can also see the Mansa Devi temple on the hill top. You need to reach there by ropeway trolley. The shiva statue in Haridwar: Our ride: To be continued...
1) Me taking a dip in Ganga
2) People taking bath in Ganga.
3) The ganga herself on the river
4) Streets of Haridwar
5) Ticket fare and waiting time displayed at ticket counter
6) Temple on bank of ganga
To be continued...the trolley ride and manasa devi temple above hill.
Now I know, why you went missing for a long time.
How was the weather?

Thanks for correcting. I mistook it as Sumo.
@snaronikar,
nice pics.
Had you visited Patanjali yogpith[ swami Ramdev baba] on the way to Haridwar at Bahadarabad?
it seems that you had visited Mansadevi temple late evening. The daylight view of Ganga from that temple is truly mesmerizing.
Interesting travelogue, eagerly awaiting for more. The buildings look too close to the river, wonder what happens at times of flood.
I suppose Haridwar and Rishikesh were hot like Delhi. Was Dehradun any better?
So, you are back. Good to see such nice pics. Especially, the... No, I know that you got it :D
